BEATRICE GIBSON, 89, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. GROVER, 94, of Howell, formerly of Banks Township and Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Medilodge Nursing Home in Howell. She was born Aug. 29, 1906. Private family services will be held. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. ADA E. JAMISON, 83, of Kalkaska, formerly of Fife Lake, died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Canada. No services will be held. Internment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska. Arrangements are being handled by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. ANN RIHA, 81, of Traverse City, formerly of Ann Arbor, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Ann Arbor at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. TRAVERSE CITY - Rose I. Flees, 86, of Traverse City, died Tuesday evening, December 5, 2000 at Birchwood Nursing Center in Traverse City. Born Sept. 4, 1914, in Isadore, she was the daughter of Martin and Victoria (Kava) Flees. On Sept. 7, 1935, in Traverse City, she married Joseph Flees. A homemaker, Rose was also formerly employed by Potter's Fine Pastries West Bay branch for a number of years. She enjoyed reminiscing about her younger years when she worked with the Boughey Family on Union Street. It was there she learned proper etiquette. She also enjoyed planning family dinners, working in her flower gardens and the time she spent with her family. Rose was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Altar Society and a former member of Catholic Daughter's of America. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara J. (Kenneth) King of Traverse City; two granddaughters, Gyneth King of Traverse City and Connie (John) Kobberstad of Port Huron; twin great-grandsons, Matthew Joseph and Kenneth John Kobberstad; one brother, Martin (Alice) Flees of Maple City; sisters-in-law, Irene Kadrovach and Mabel Flees - both of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; her parents, Martin and Victoria Flees; a sister, Lucille Witkowski; and a half-brother, Florian Flees. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, where a rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. James Hayden serving as celebrant. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at a later date at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Marjorie D. Malaski, 82, of Alpena, died peacefully Tuesday, December 5, 2000, at Munson Medical Center. She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Alpena. Marjorie is survived by two sons, Stanley (Judy) of Traverse City and Mark (Carolyn) of Flushing; three grandchildren, Michael of Grand Rapids, Alison of Flushing and Mindy (Hugh) Hardin of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, on Nov. 21, 1999; three brothers; and one sister. Cremation has taken place. Brown, 75, of Gig Harbor, formerly of Traverse City, died suddenly on Nov. 21, 2000, while visiting her sister in Michigan. She was born Nancy Jean Finlayson on May 28, 1925, in Traverse City. She moved to Gig Harbor, Wash. in 1979. Her husband, Charles “Chuck” R. Brown preceded her in death in 1997. Nancy and Chuck loved life, their family and many friends. They were members of the Gig Harbor Golf Club and the Elks. Nancy is survived by her son, Daniel (Kaye) of Gig Harbor, Wash.; her daughter, Lesley (Bob) Ramlow of Kalamazoo; her sister, Barbara (Ed) Clauss of Mt. Pleasant; and her brother, Robert (Mary) Finlayson of Gig Harbor, Wash. She is also survived by one grandson, Matthew Brown of Gig Harbor; and several nieces and nephews. A private family service was held on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the home of Robert and Mary Finlayson. Any remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice. SUTTONS BAY - Charles J. 'Jay' Stratton, 73, of Suttons Bay, died Monday at his home. Born April 4, 1927, in Suttons Bay, he was the son of Ruben and Nellie (Crocker) Stratton. In 1963, in Detroit, he married Patricia A. Fuller, who survives. Jay served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a retired stone mason and he loved attending auctions. He was also very instrumental in setting up an AA program in Traverse City and was also a former Suttons Bay Village and Township Zoning administrator. He is survived by his children, Liz (Ed) Hart of Brea, Calif., Charlie (Debbie) Stratton, Jr. of Beulah, Teri (Denny) McCourtney of Davison, Tim Olson of Suttons Bay, Tom (Carla) Olson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Cheri (David) Durdel of Traverse City and Laura (Ted Anderson) Curell of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sisters, Helen (Al) Birdsey of Traverse City and Ruby McCourtney of Davison; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a cousin, Johnny Geroy; and a brother-in-law, Dave McCourtney. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Suttons Bay Congregational Church with Rev. James Beadle officiating. Burial will be at Suttons Bay Township Cemetery. GLEN ELLYN, Ill. - Matthew Won Peek, 39, formerly of Traverse City, died Tuesday morning in an automo-bile accident in Chicago. Matthew was born Won Hyo Yun on June 25, 1961, Seoul, Korea, and was adopted into the Peek family on Nov. 11, 1976. He married Nina Kang on Aug. 26, 1987. Matthew was a Korean-style chef and in the process of opening his own restaurant. He graduated from Trav-erse City High School in 1981 and enjoyed soccer, karate, cooking and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife and son, Kurtis Kang, of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; his par-ents, Gordon and Marilyn Peek of Traverse City; brother Larry (Carol Shaw) Peek of Interlochen; brother Randy (Mary) Peek of Buckley; sister Cheryl (John) Lohner of Traverse City; brother Jeff (Ellen) Peek of Traverse City; sister Lori (Keith) Smith of Trav-erse City; sister, Kim (Lars) Peek-Jensen of Spring Lake; sister Nykky (Philip) Gilbertson of Homewood, Ill.; 15 nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces. A traditional Korean wake will be held at 8 p.m. CST at Colonial Funeral Home in Niles, Ill., and funeral serv-ices will be held at 10 a.m. CST Fri-day, also at Colonial Funeral Home.
