Obituaries

RAPID CITY - Kathryn Marie Crawford, 78, of Rapid City, died Saturday.
      She was born on July 24, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., the daughter of Raymond and Edna (Gallagher) Stock. On July 30, 1946, Kathryn married Victor L. Crawford in Long Island, N.Y.
      Kathryn was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church; faith was an integral part of her life. She enjoyed cooking and being a mother and homemaker.
      She is survived by her husband, Victor L. Crawford; three sons, Jim (Maria Bicknell) Crawford of Tucson, Ariz., Rick Crawford of Washington, D.C., and Tom (Vilia Johnson) Crawford of Bellevue, Wash.; three grandchildren, Michael, Noah and Christian; and one sister, Madolyn Cappell of Toms River, N.J. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents.
      Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids, with Evening Prayer at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, with Rev. Robert J. Zuchowski as celebrant. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Daphne W. Doelker, 80, of Traverse City and formerly of Albion and Kalamazoo, died Saturday at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      She was born on August 7, 1920, in Albion, to Harold F. and Charlotte (Northrop) Wochholz. On May 14, 1947, in Albion, she married Frederick Doelker, who survives.
      Daphne was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church. She graduated from Albion College in 1942, and was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Society. Daphne served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE beginning in 1943. She was a radio operator stationed at Floyd Bennett Naval Air Station in New York. She loved to talk about her time in New York. Daphne was also an avid golfer and a longtime member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.
      She is survived by her husband; one son, Fred H. Doelker of Traverse City; two brothers, Harold F. (Phyllis) Wochholz of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Henry N. (Frances) Wochholz of Calamesa, Calif.; two nieces and two nephews.
      Memorial services will be arranged for this spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Arrangements have been handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
      HONOR-Norman Dana Covey, 67, of Honor, died Saturday at his residence.
      He was born on July 9, 1933, in Honor, the son of Ezra and Evelyn (Dana) Covey, M.D.
      Norman graduated from Honor High School in 1957; he attended the University of Michigan from 1951 to 1954 and from 1957 to 1958. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956.
      He had been an auto-worker at the Fisher Body #1 in Flint from 1964 to 1989. He had also worked as a house painter and in construction, as well as being a medical attendant at Munson Medical Center and North Miami General.
      Norman enjoyed photography, cars, motorcycles, bicycles and traveling. He also loved nature, animals and feeding birds during the winter; and had recently started gardening. He liked listening to jazz, classical and Latin music; going to Sunday evening concerts and Interlochen. Most of all, Norman loved to swim in Lake Michigan.
      He is survived by numerous cousins, family members, friends and his beloved dog, Buffy; and he will be dearly missed.
      Norman was preceded in death by his parents.
      Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home, with Pastor Thomas Maher officiating. Interment will be in Champion Hill Cemetery in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League of Benzie County. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
      JUNE A. BAKER, 81, of Central Lake, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey. June was born May 24, 1919.
      Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Forest Hill Cemetery Chapel in Canton, Ohio.
      Arrangements have been handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      RUBY ADELIA ERLER, 91, of Manistee, formerly of Wellston, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. She was born on October 13, 1909, in Morgan Hill, Calif., the daughter of John and Lillian (Barber) DeMouth.
      Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of the service. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Church of Wellston, in Wellston. Interment will be in Freewood Cemetery in the spring.
      Terwilliger Funeral Home of Kaleva is in charge of the arrangements.
     
      PATRICIA S. KISHLINE, 76, of Beulah, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Beloved wife of F. Richard Kishline.
      Memorial service will be held on January 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Benzonia. A complete obituary will appear at a later date.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      EDUARD ROY LUECK, 62, of Kewadin, died Nov. 19, 2000.
      A memorial service will take place on Friday at noon at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. Lunch will follow.
     
      LOIS M. OSTHAUS, 87, of Waterford, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000. Loving wife of Bernard B. Osthaus; dear mother of John (Donna) Osthaus of Virginia and Carl (Wendy) Osthaus of West Bloomfield; sister of Alice Thrilby, Jean Spoor and Kathleen Weiss; beloved grandmother of John Osthaus, Christopher Osthaus, Laura Osthaus (Doug McLaughlin) and Amy (Frank) Partica; great-grandmother of Corinn.
      Funeral services will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Riverside Chapel, Simpson-Modetz Funeral Home, 5630 Pontiac Lake Rd., Waterford. Pastor Johnny Lyles officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
      Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Michigan.
     
      ALVIN J. ROUSE, 80, of Grayling and formerly of Rochester Hills, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, at his residence. He was born on May 20, 1920, in Pontiac.
      Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to the time of the service. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel. Interment will be in the spring at Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling.
