December 23, 2000ObituariesEASTPORT - Jakob P. Gantner, 66, of Eastport, died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.Jakob was a well-known watch and clock maker and repairman in the area and worked for Martinek's Jewelers in Traverse City for many years. He was born in Franeztahl, Yugoslavia, the son of Franz and Therezia (Tries) Gantner. On June 13, 1964, in Roseville, he married Ana Novak, who survives. He moved to Eastport from Roseville in 1974. Surviving besides his wife, are two sons, Ronald (Katie) Gantner of Beverly Hills, Mich., and Christopher Gantner of Frederick, Md.; three grandchildren, Emily, Allison and Jakob, all of Beverly Hills; three sisters, Eva Wittner of Canton, Rosina (Stanley) Zych of Warren, and Katarina (Nicholas) Gross of Warren; one brother, Franz (Katie) Gantner of Toronto, Canada; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Tony, Josef and Johan; and one sister, Magdalena Herster. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of services. Sister Kathy Lange will officiate. Graveside services will be held in the spring at Lakeview Cemetery in Torch Lake Township. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Torch Bay Ambulance, Munson Hospice, or Munson Hospitality House. Ophelia B. Westcott December 20, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Ophelia B. Westcott, 91, of Traverse City, died on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000. Born on June 18, 1909, in Endicott, N.Y., she was the daughter of Walter and Cora (Benn) Brady. She worked at the Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital until her retirement in 1972. She was a member of the Eastern Star, East Bay Chapter. Ophelia is survived by one niece, Margo Hommel of Endicott, N.Y.; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Jean; and two sisters. No visitation or services are planned. Memorials may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society or the Traverse City Order of the Eastern Star. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. ELIZABETH M. HOCKSTEIN, 95, of Maple City, died Tuesday, December 19, 2000. Funeral prayers will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Detroit. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. MILDRED P. GEHRKE, 89, of Manistee, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at Manistee Heights Care Center. She was born on Oct. 22, 1911, in Manistee. No visitation is planned. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's of Mount Carmel Shrine in Manistee in the spring. Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home in Manistee. GARY VERN WYMAN, 53, of Grayling, died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at home. He was born on March 22, 1947, in Gladwin. He was employed as a computer numerical control operator by the Valenite Co. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. today, Dec. 23, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Grayling, where friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of service. A spring burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Grayling, is planned. Arrangements were handled by the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. ERNA L. ANDERSON, 85, of Traverse City, died on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Grand Traverse Pavilions. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
