December 26, 2000ObituariesWendell Gage LovelessDied December 24, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Wendell Gage Loveless, 77, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday at the Grand Traverse Pavilions from complications due to Alzheimer's disease. Gage was born on August 30, 1923, in Petoskey, the son of Wendell M. and Dorothy Gage Loveless. He graduated from Petoskey High School, and from General Motors Institute in Flint with a degree in engineering. On August 24, 1947, he married Judith Marilyn Miller at the First Methodist Church in Petoskey. They resided briefly in Detroit before moving to Traverse City in 1950. Gage was employed at Cone Drive Gears in Traverse City, where upon his retirement in 1984 he was Director of Engineering. He was active in the Boy Scouts in many capacities, including Scoutmaster of Troop 36. In the late 1960s and 70s he was a member of the Traverse City Board of Zoning Appeals and the Traverse City Planning Commission. After moving to Leelanau County, he served on the Elmwood Township Planning Commission. Gage was a 30 year member of the Traverse City Rotary Club, and a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for a number of years. Among his many hobbies, Gage was an accomplished woodworker and lapidarist, making fine furniture, guitars and jewelry. He was an avid sportsman, and enjoyed duck hunting and fishing. Gage is survived by his wife, Judy; his four children, Lyn of Wooster, Ohio, John (Kathy) of Hillsdale, Janet (Bill) Lewis of East Grand Rapids and Steven (Denise) of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, Danu (Ralph) Geraci and Anna Loveless, and Aaron and Michael Lewis; and by his mother-in-law, Estella Funk Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents. There will be calling hours on Tuesday, Dec. 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Traverse City. Interment will be in Petoskey at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Traverse Symphony Orchestra, the Alzheimers Association, or Central United Methodist Church Music program. KATHERINE CLARICI, 83, of Mancelona, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000, at Kalkaska Memorial Hospital. Arrangements will be announced at a later date by the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. MARY C. AULT, 97, of Dayton, Ohio, formerly of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000. Arrangements are being handled by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. BERT B. JARL, 79, of Manistee, died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. He was born on August 23, 1921, in Sweden. A memorial service will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson Funeral Home of Manistee. Funeral services for ROBERT BELLOWS will be held at noon on Wednesday at Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Peshawbestown. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. JEANETTE L. HARTHUN, 58, of Bear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at West Shore Medical Center, the result of an automobile accident. She was born April 9, 1942, in Arcadia. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Onekama from noon until the time of the service. A memorial service will be held at the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the spring at Pilgrim Home Cemetery in Arcadia. Arrangements are being handled by the Edwards Funeral Home of Bear Lake. |
