Obituraries

TRAVERSE CITY - Virginia E. Durocher, 86, of Traverse City, died Friday at her home.
      She was born on Oct. 20, 1914, in Detroit, the daughter of Joseph and Edith Siska. She married William H. Durocher in Detroit, who preceded her in death in 1965.
      A resident of Traverse City since 1950, Virginia retired from Munson Medical Center and was Blair Township Clerk for 15 years. She was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church, Order of Eastern Star and Queen City Shrine of Traverse City.
      She is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Siska of St. Clair Shores; three nieces and two nephews.
      Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
      Memorial services will be held at a later date. Private family burial has taken place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorials may be directed to the Grand Traverse Unit of the American Cancer Society or The Cherryland Humane Society.
      Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Raymond Ivan Nelson, 75, of Traverse City, formerly of Mancelona and Kalkaska, died Wednesday at home.
      He was born on Feb. 12, 1925, in Manton, the son of Charles R. and Alma (John) Nelson. On July 29, 1950, he married the former Helen C. Sours, who preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1991. On Aug. 21, 1995, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Traverse City, Raymond married Patricia M. Berens, who survives.
      Raymond graduated from Mancelona High School in 1943, and then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor's of science degree in 1949. Raymond was president of First of America Bank in Mancelona, retiring in 1990. He also served on the board of directors at the Antrim County State Bank. He was a life member of the VFW Post in Manton, a member of the Central Michigan Univ. Alumni Association, a member of the Michigan Bankers Association, a member of Rotary International in Kalkaska, and was an avid reader.
      He is survived by his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Victoria (Robert) McLean of Kalkaska, Marcia (William) McGiness of Lake City, and Carol (Patrick) Dolan of Cadillac; four step-children, Steven Berens of Lansing, Susan (Mark) Swinford of Dayton, Ohio, Scott (Melissa) Berens of Traverse City, and Mark Berens of Seattle, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.
      Raymond was preceded in death by his parents.
      A celebration of Ray's life will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Traverse City, with Revs. C. Jay Koehler and Ted Turanski officiating. Friends may call at the time of the service.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Traverse City, St. Paul Lutheran Church of Kalkaska, or to Munson Hospice.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
BEULAH - Patricia S. Kishline, 76, of Beulah, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      She was born on September 24, 1924, in Detroit, the daughter of Johnston and Elizabeth (Sitter) Voigt. On June 12, 1948, Patricia became the beloved wife of F. Richard Kishline in Kenosha, Wisc. They moved to Beulah in 1991.
      Patricia was a member of the First Congregational Church of Benzonia, Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes, Benzie Area Historical Society and Friends of Benzonia Library. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and pottery.
      Patricia is survived by her husband, F. Richard Kishline; and her son Carl (Pat) Kishline of Kent, Wash.
      She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary, and her sister, Ruth Pettitt.
      Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2001 at 2 p.m. from the First Congregational Church of Benzonia, with Rev. Stephen Davidson officiating. Memorials may be made to the church.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Mozell Olson, 70, of Traverse City, formerly of Pontiac, died Saturday at her home.
      Mozell was born on June 10, 1930, in Piedmont, Ala., the daughter of Robert L. and Vera (Henderson) Gardner.
      She was a former resident of Pontiac, where she was a longtime employee of Slaybaugh's Restaurant.
      She is survived by two daughters, Gail (Jim) Barton Leone and Dale Barton Whitehead; a son, Bill Olson; six grandchildren, Jim Leone, Marcus Leone, Julianne Whitehead, John (Shannan) Whitehead, and Rochelle Olson and William Olson II.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Olson; a son, Skip Barton; and her father, Robert L. Garner.
      Private family services have been held. Memorials may be directed to Munson Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
      Arrangements were handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
ELIZABETH BROSIER, 21, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, as the result of an auto accident.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Friday.
      Funeral services will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Reformed Church in Traverse City.

ANNA J. BASFORD, 89, of Traverse City, formerly of Lake Ann, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Graveside services and burial will take place at Benzonia Township Cemetery in the spring of 2001.

BERNARD J. DENOYER, 63, of Maple City, passed away Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 26, 2000, at Munson HealthCare.
      Friends may call at the Martinson Funeral Home on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.; a Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

BEULAH M. MORRISON, 100, of Elk Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 25, 2000. She was born on January 15, 1900, to William and Sarah (Brott) Myers.
      Memorial services will be held in Elk Rapids in the spring.
