DUNLAP, 96, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. EDWARD D. KLEEHAMMER, 59, of Fife Lake, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A retired mechanic, he was born March 17, 1941, in Grayling. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Lodi Cemetery. MARY STEVENS, 77, of Echo Township, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at home. She was born Aug. 27, 1923. No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. HAROLD HANK 'THE LEGEND' YACKS, 77, of Thompsonville, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort. A full obituary will appear in the Friday Record-Eagle. Aring Died November 5, 2000 GLEN ARBOR - Walter E. Aring, 82, of Sun City Center, Fla., and Glen Arbor, formerly of Toledo, Ohio, died Sunday. He was Project Engineer for Champion Spark Plug with over 37 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an Artillery Surveyor. He was a member of the Toledo Symphony Chorus, the Noontiders of Glen Lake, Zenobia Shrine Chanters Unit, Ken Holland Chorus, Society of Automotive Engineers, Lions Club and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was an Elder of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glen Arbor and a lifetime member of Augsburg Lutheran Church in Toledo, Ohio, and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sun City Center, Fla. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth. He is survived by his second wife, Helen; 4 sons, Walter Jr. of Empire, William of Toledo, Ohio, James of Waukeshaw, Wis., and Edward of London, England; a sister, Evelyn Bliem of Fort Myers, Fla.; and 8 grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the Augsburg Lutheran Church, 1342 West Sylvania Avenue, Toledo, Ohio. Mary Irene Kelly Died November 8, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - Mary Irene Kelly, 74, of Traverse City, died Wednesday at home. Born April 2, 1926, in Flint, she was the daughter of Felix and Mary (Houlihan) Burkholder. On May 6, 1947, in Flint, she was united in marriage to William L. Kelly. Mrs. Kelly attended Michigan State University and Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., where she was a member of the Gamma Phi sorority. She was a member of the Junior League of Flint, the Needlework Guild and St. Matthew's Altar Guild. She is survived by four children, Theresa (Thomas) Henkelmann of Greenwich, Conn., Deborah (Kenneth) Knudson of Suttons Bay, Patricia (Christian) Vanneque of Traverse City, and William (Linda) Kelly of Fenton; a brother, M.E. (Dorothy) Burkholder of Scottsdale, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William, in 1997, and brother, James Burkholder. Family graveside services will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery in Mapleton with the Rev. Father Patrick Barrett officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. William J. 'Bud' Norcross Died November 8, 2000 TRAVERSE CITY - William J. "Bud" Norcross, 79, of Traverse City, died Wednesday at Grand Traverse Pavilions. A pharmacist, he had owned and operated the Norcross Drug Store in Traverse City for many years, retiring in 1989. Following his retirement, he owned and operated Bud Norcross, "Yardist." He was a graduate of the Ferris State College School of Pharmacy and served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a pilot. Bud was a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club, Elks Lodge No. 323, Traverse City, the Kiwanis and the Ex Coast Guard Pilots Club. He enjoyed tennis. Born May 21, 1921, in City Island, N.Y., he was the son of William and Wilamina "Willa" (Jacob) Norcross. On Aug. 28, 1945, in Grand Rapids, he married Jane C. Clark who survives. Also surviving is one daughter, Mary (Tom Rutecki) Norcross of Juneau, Alaska; one son, Peter Norcross of Scituate, Mass.; two grandchildren, Jenna and Nickolas Rutecki; two nieces; and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John L. Norcross. Memorial services will be private. Arrangements are by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Larry D. Rountree Died November 7, 2000 INTERLOCHEN - Larry D. Rountree, 53, of Interlochen and a resident of this area all of his adult life, died Tuesday. He was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Edward and Maxine (Kubesh) Rountree. He worked at the Traverse City State Hospital for many years and was also employed at the Interlochen State Park. Later, he was employed as a carpenter. Larry enjoyed hunting and golfing. He was a member of the Interlochen Eagles and the American Military League. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in Thailand and Hawaii. Surviving are three children, Amy (Terry) Stevens of Kingsley, Sara (Todd) Thayer of Traverse City, and Mandy Rountree of Traverse City; five brothers and sisters, Robert (Sue) Rountree of Interlochen, twin brother, Richard Rountree of Traverse City, Mark (Robin) Domine of Traverse City, Marcia (Pat) Magee of Gwinn, and Dawn Goss of Traverse City; fianc‚e, Stephanie Jaratz of Interlochen; grand daughter, Haley Stevens; and several nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, wife Victoria in 1991, and a brother John R. Domine in infancy. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens with military honors provided under the auspices of the VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780. Military Chaplain Richard Ask will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Arthur L. Swardson Died November 6, 2000 WILLIAMSBURG - Arthur L. Swardson, 71, a resident of Williamsburg for the past 11 years, died Monday at his home. Mr. Swardson had lived in Chicago prior to moving to Williamsburg. He was a retired Chicago firefighter and owned and operated Calumet Plumbing in Chicago. He enjoyed sailing. Born in Chicago on March 28, 1929, he was the son of Arthur C. and Marie Bolhuis Swardson. On February 13, 1978, in Frankfort, Illinois, he married Geraldine Baker who survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Dale (Mary) Swardson of Muncie, Indiana, Thomas (Arline) Swardson of Indianapolis, Ind., John (Jan) Swardson of Valparaiso, Ind., and Lee Swardson of San Francisco; a daughter, Sue (Ron) Bakker of Demotte, Ind.; 3 stepsons, Gary Baker of Boomer, W. VA, Jerry Baker of Omaha, Neb., and Michael (Denise) Baker of Highland, Ind., a step daughter, Deborah (Bob) Osburn of Huntington, W. VA; 2 half brothers, Thomas Durkin of Illinois and Gregg Durkin of Florida; 10 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska from 6 to 9 p.m. today. Visitation will continue from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Drumm Funeral Home in South Holland, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Monday at the Drumm Funeral Home. Rev. Kenneth Doss will officiate. burial will be in Memory Lanes Memorial Park Cemetery in Schererville, Indiana. |
