Obituaries

      MAJOR JAMES LEWIS BIELSKI, 55, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at home. A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday Record-Eagle.
      A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      LAVERNE F. SCHWANDT SR., 68, of Manistee, formerly of Wellston, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born March 18, 1932, in Muskegon.
      Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at St. Bernards Catholic Church with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. A Mass from the Order of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Irons. Interment will be in Fernwood Cemetery. The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in charge of arrangements.
     
      Mary A. Johnson
      Died November 10, 2000
      BELLAIRE - Mary A. Johnson, 85, of Bellaire, died Friday at her home.
      Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Luke the Evangalist Catholic Church in Bellaire. Father R. Dale Magoon will officiate. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire.
      She was born on February 2, 1915, in Detroit, the daughter of John and Rose Hayosh. On June 30, 1934, in Detroit, she married John L. Johnson. They made their home in Detroit. They moved to Bellaire in 1971. John preceded her in death on November 22, 1998.
      Mary is survived by one brother, John Hayosh of Warren; one sister, Catherine Rabels of St. Clair Shores; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Michael and Joseph Hayosh; and one sister, Ann Matkovich.
      The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., in Mancelona and Wednesday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. A Rosary service will be held on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church.
     
      Mary S. Sheridan
      Died November 11, 2000
      MAPLE CITY - Mary S. Sheridan, 94, of Maple City, died Saturday, November 11, 2000, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Mary was born April 9, 1906, in Cedar, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Brezinski) Bloswick, and on January 16, 1924, she married Louis L. Sheridan in Grand Rapids.
      Mary was a member of St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City and St. Rita's Altar Society. She also was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and enjoyed her family and reading.
      Mary is survived by her children: Louis "Bud" (Jane) Sheridan of Coleman, Theodore (Margaret) Sheridan of Brunswick, Ohio, Joyce Sheridan of Manistee, and John (Ruth) Sheridan of Maple City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; as well as her sisters, Esther Flaska of Maple City, Clara Bumgardner of Maple City, and Helen Elmer of Six Lakes; a sister-in-law, Ruby Bloswick of St. Ignace; a dear friend, Dianna Ives of Manistee; her son-in-law, Eugene Richardson of Glen Arbor; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
      Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Irene Richardson; a grandson, Loren Richardson; a great-grandson, Michael Richardson; her sisters, Isabelle Houston and Winifred Pearcy; and her brother, John Bloswick.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Rita's Catholic Church in Maple City with The Rev. Fr. Walter Anthony serving as Celebrant.
      Burial will be in St. Phillip Neri Catholic Cemetery in Empire.
      Visitation will be held at St. Rita's Catholic Church on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. with the Rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Rita's Catholic Church.
      The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Gladys P. Stadler
      Died November 11, 2000
      KALKASKA - Gladys P. Stadler, a resident of Kalkaska since 1977, died Saturday at her home.
      Mrs. Stadler was born in Kimball, South Dakota, to William and Goldie Cornell Ehlers. On August 12, 1938, in Plankinton, South Dakota, she was united in marriage with Edwin Stadler who preceded her in death on May 25, 1975.
      Mrs. Stadler resided in Detroit prior to moving to Kalkaska, and was a retired General Motors employee. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and enjoyed traveling.
      Surviving are a son, Douglas (Starr) Stadler of St. Cloud, Florida; a daughter, Joan (Bill) Nikischer of Mancelona; two sisters, Eunice Parriott and Velva Dressen - both of Kimball, South Dakota; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Edna, and a stepbrother, Keith.
      Friends may call at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska from 3:30 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Rev. Ted Turanski will officiate. Entombment will be in Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
