Obituaries

WILLIAM J. SIVEK, 68, of Traverse City, died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A full obituary will appear in Wednesday's Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      MARION JOHN WRIGHT, 90, of Grayling, died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, at Mercy Manor in Grayling.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling, where visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint.
     
      William A. 'Bill' Clarke
      Died November 19, 2000
      COLFAX TOWNSHIP - William A. "Bill" Clarke, 76, of Colfax Township, died Sunday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Bill was born Dec. 22, 1923, in Bay City, the son of Clifton and Louise (Lago) Clarke.
      Bill served his country honorably during World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Chrysler Motors in 1987 after 22 years of service and in 1989 he moved from Roseville to Colfax Township. Bill was a member of the Read-Osborne American Legion Post No. 531 of Copemish and the Betsie River Sportsman Club.
      Bill is survived by his sons, Frank (Janet) Clarke of Thompsonville, Christopher Clarke of Metamora and Paul Turkal of Clinton Township; four grandchildren; two brothers, James Clarke of Romeo and Walter Clarke of Oregon; and two sisters, Gloria Boom and Mildred Gomez - both of Romeo.
      Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes, where friends may call from noon until the time of services. Rev. Richard Stoddard will officiate.
      Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Betsie River Sportsman Club.
      Roger E. Heyn
      Died November 20, 2000
      BENZONIA - Roger E. Heyn, 67, of Benzonia, died Monday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born Dec. 28, 1932, in Saginaw, he was the son of Julius and Julia (Lassignal) Heyn. On Aug. 5, 1954, at Mackinac Island, he married Kay Fleminger, who preceded him in death in 1980. On April 12, 1984, in Saginaw, he married Hazel Freier.
      He is survived by his wife, Hazel; two sons, Gregory (Kathleen McGraw) Heyn of Saginaw and John (Ginger) Heyn of Honor; two stepsons, Kurt Ockerman of Benzonia and Karl (Kris) Ockerman of Galdwin; a sister, Blanche (Don) Miller; brothers-in-law, John (Linda) Freier, Jim (Bonnie) Fleminger and Don (Loretta) Fleminger; sisters-in-law, Mary McDonough and Darlene (Kip) DeMoines; and grandchildren, Megan, Devin and Morgan Heyn, Keith, Kaitlyn and Kurt Ockerman and Hunter Heyn.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife.
      Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service honoring Roger's life will be held at noon Wednesday at the First Congregational Church of Benzonia with Rev. Stephen J. Davidson officiating. A memorial service will also be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Saginaw.
      Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospital, 530 S. Jefferson, Saginaw, MI 48601 for the Pediatric Free Ward Association.
      The family is being served by the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah.
     
      Eduard Roy Lueck
      Died November 19, 2000
      KEWADIN - Mr. Eduard Roy Lueck, 62, of Kewadin, died Sunday while visiting family in North Carolina.
      Born March 29, 1938, in Wayne County, he was the son of the late Gerhard and Erna (Schumann) Lueck.
      Mr. Lueck attended First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. He served in the U. S. Navy and was retired from Empire National Bank.
      He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Wierman Lueck; two sons, Derek Lueck of Oakland, Calif. and Dane (Robin) Lueck of Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters, Erin (Jeff) Nelson of White Cloud and Renel (Paul) Johnson of Charlotte, NC; one brother, Horst (Eunice) Lueck of Seneca, SC; and three grandchildren, Cheyenne, Shawnee and Eduard Nelson.
      Memorial services will be held on Friday, Dec. 22 at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids. The time of services will be announced at a later date.

      Mary G. 'Mimi' Rae
      Died November 16, 2000
      LELAND - Mary G. "Mimi" Rae, of Leland Woods, passed away on Thursday at her home after a long-term chronic illness.
      She was born in Philadelphia, Penn. and moved, as a child, to Ann Arbor where she lived until 1973 when she and her husband moved to Leland.
      Mrs. Rae, an artist, gourmet cook and treasured wife and mother, is survived by her husband, James W. Rae, MD; her brother, Philip D. Gordy, MD of Casper, Wyo.; her daughters, Wendy (Jack) Browner of Phoenix, Ariz. and Tracy (Oscar Kent) Dobson of East Lansing. Mrs. Rae has four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
      Mrs. Rae and her husband were enthusiastic supports of Share Care Grand Traverse Area Hospice and the Leelanau Conservancy among other charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory may be made to those organizations.
      Arrangements are being handled by Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.
      Virginia (Vinkemulder) Tinkham
      Died November 19, 2000
      GRAND RAPIDS - Virginia (Vinkemulder) Tinkham, 88, of Grand Rapids, died Sunday.
      She is survived by her two children, Linda (Dirk) Hitchcock of Newaygo and Jim Vinkemulder of Caledonia; her grandchildren, Debbie (Peter) Lundquist of East Grand Rapids, Stacey (Steve) Lamie of Traverse City, Jason (Susan) Vinkemulder of Spring Lake and Rudy (Anne) Vinkemulder of Battle Creek; three stepchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
      A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Porter Hills Meeting House, 3600 E. Fulton St., Grand Rapids.
      Contributions may be made to Porter Hills Presbyterian Village Benevolent Fund, Mayflower Congregational Church or a charity of your choice.
      Arrangements are being handled by Metcalf & Jonkhoff Funeral Service in Grand Rapids.
     
      Marlene Eleanor VanVoorst
      Died November 19, 2000
      TRAVERSE CITY - Marlene Eleanor VanVoorst, 62, of Traverse City, died Sunday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born May 9, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of William and Eleanora (Pergande) Hildebrandt. In December 1963, in Illinois, she married Jacob VanVoorst, who preceded her in death in June of 1982.
      Marlene was a 22 year resident of Traverse City, moving from Elmhurst, Ill. She was active in bowling and bridge and loved Dixieland music. Marlene was a retired public school teacher and most recently was involved in Census 2000 in Traverse City. Marlene will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
      She was a loving mother to her son, Brian (Jennifer) VanVoorst of Hancock. She is also survived by her brother, Warren (Bonnie) Hildebrandt of Seal Beach, Calif., and a sister, Karen Morelli.
      A gathering of family and friends with a sharing time will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Friends of the Traverse City Public Library.
