Obituaries

ROBERT H. BERGSTROM, 71, of Farmington Hills, died Thursday, Nov. 16, as a result of severe diabetes and Huntington Disease.
      Funeral arrangements were handled by McCabe Funeral Home in Farmington Hills, where visitation took place on Saturday, Nov. 18. An in-state ceremony was held on Saturday, Nov. 19, at Faith Covenant Church in Farmington Hills, followed by a memorial service. A private committal service and burial was held on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000. A complete obituary will appear in Saturday's Record-Eagle.
     
      BEATRICE COUNCILOR, 81, of Atlanta, Mich., formerly of Mancelona, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at Alpena General Hospital.
      The family will receive friends from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
     
      MARIE H. HUBBELL, 83, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000.
      Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Catholic Church. Interment will be at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery. A full obituary will appear in Friday's Record-Eagle.
     
      GERALDINE CARLISLE LOCKWOOD, 74, of Indianapolis, Ind., died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kinglsey. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. A complete obituary will appear in Friday's Record-Eagle.
      Jean Jahraus
      Died November 20, 2000
      TRAVERSE CITY - Jean Jahraus, 79, of Traverse City, died Monday.
      Born Feb. 19, 1921, in Jonesboro, Ark., she was the daughter of Martin and B. Pearl (Sides) Baker. On June 9, 1946, in Chicago, she married Alfred Jahraus.
      Jean was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Traverse City, Christians Women's Club of Traverse City, Republicans Women's Club and the Northwestern Michigan Art Association.
      Survivors include two daughters, Michelle Jahraus-Smith of Traverse City and Nancy (Stewart) Reed of Holland; a brother, Ross Baker of Traverse City; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alfred, in 1984.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethany Baptist Church in Traverse City, where visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Rev. Donald Sunman will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
      Memorials may be made to Christian Women's Club.
      Sandra Lee 'Sandy' Laird
      Died November 20, 2000
      TRAVERSE CITY - Sandra Lee "Sandy" Laird, 59, of Acme, died Monday in Traverse City.
      Born July 15, 1941, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Lawrence Hubbell and Vera Homan. On April 19, 1963, she married Harold L. Laird.
      A native of Traverse City, Sandy was a member of Feast of Victory Lutheran Church and Women's Bible Study. She enjoyed playing bingo at Knights of Columbus and women's bingo at the VFW Cherryland Post No. 2780 on Wednesday mornings. Sandy also enjoyed gardening and time with her grandchildren.
      Survivors include two sons, Michael (Barb) Laird of Traverse City and Todd Laird of Acme; a daughter, Kelly (Brian) Steinebach of Grawn; grandchildren, Nicholas Laird, Rebecca and Megan Steinebach and Carley Laird; and many special friends.
      She was preceded in death by her husband on March 16, 1987; her parents; and a sister, Patricia Valentine.
      Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Feast of Victory Lutheran Church with Rev. James Helman officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to an educational fund to be established in the grandchildren's names.
