      Anna Evaleen Stuive
      Died November 23, 2000
BELMONT - Anna was born on March 9, 1999. She returned to heaven on Thursday, Nov. 23. Thus, Anna stayed with us for one year, eight months, fifteen days, one hour and 44 minutes. Every minute was an incredible gift.
This may not seem like a long time to live but it was exactly as long as Anna was supposed to live because the amino acids were mixed up in the mito- chondrial DNA of Anna’s cells. The “mix up” has been de- scribed to us as a defect, a mu- tation, or a disease. But, to us, because it was written into her cells from the moment she was conceived, it was a much a part of Anna as her blue eyes or her pudgy fingers.
Even though Anna did not live very long, she lived very well. She loved her dolly, her bal- loons, and ribbons. She loved to watch the sunlight filter through the leaves of the big maple trees in the front yard. She loved to be sung to, read to and she loved to be held. Anna especially loved to be held while she watched football games on television. As much as Anna loved to be held, she loved to hold others. She would always be sure to firmly grasp the fingers of anyone holding her, to let them know that being held was a two-way street. During July of 1999, Anna learned to laugh. She forgot how to laugh a month later, but for that one month Anna loved to make people laugh by laughing first.
Anna also loved her family; her parents, John C. Stuive, Esq. and the Hon. Kathleen A. Feeney of Belmont; her grandparents, Johanna and John Stuive of Wyoming and Delores and Verne Feeney of Traverse City; and her aunts and uncles, Lauran and Oscar Bittinger of Grand Rapids, Dr. Ronald and Lisa DeVries of Seattle, Wash., Dr. Brian and Crystal Feeney of Traverse City, and Patrick Feeney of Traverse City; her cousins, Kaitlin and Kenzie Feeney of Traverse City and Drew DeVries of Seattle, Wash.; and her Bernese moun- tain dogs, Ruby and Jas- per.
Anna brought all who knew her indescribable joy. Anna never walked, she never talked, she could not hold her head up, and for the last year of her life she could not even smile; nonethe- less, she spoke volumes to us, she taught us many lessons, and she touched an entire lifetime’s worth of people. We thank God for giving us Anna and we thank you all for your prayers and sup- port.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Pederson Funeral Home in Rockford. On Tuesday at 8 p.m. a Remem- brance Service will be held at the funeral home so Anna’s friends can share their special memories of Anna with those who love her. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednes- day at Assumption of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Belmont, with visitation at the church prior to the Mass begin- ning at 9:15 a.m. Following the Mass, interment will be held at Plainfield Township Cemetery and a luncheon at the church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to The Anna’s Friends Foundation, 6132 Rogue Lane, NE, Belmont, MI 49306. The foundation funds research, edu- cation and services for children who have been diagnosed with terminal or life-altering ill- nesses.
