Obituaries

RICHARD J. CHMURA, 67, of Bear Lake and Fraser, Mich., died on Friday, Nov. 24, 2000, at St. Johns Hospital in Detroit.
      Born March 31, 1933, in Detroit, he owned Fredricks Resort in Bear Lake.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Edwards Funeral Home in Bear Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Onekama. A spring burial at Bear Lake Township Cemetery is planned. Arrangements by Edwards Funeral Home.
     
      VERNON LALONE, 88, of Williamsburg, died on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday Record-Eagle.
     
      FLORENCE EDITH NELSON, 74, of Beaver Creek, died on Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at home.
      Born Jan. 25, 1926, she was a homemaker and, prior to retirement, also was the Beaver Creek Township Clerk.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. today at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, in Grayling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grayling. Interment will be in Beaver Creek Cemetery in Beaver Creek. Arrangements by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel.
     
      DORIS ANN HARLAND, 71, of Grayling, died on Friday, November 24, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling.
      She was born April 9, 1929, in Flint. She had been employed as a food service cook by the Crawford AuSable School System and was retired.
      A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Grayling, where friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling. Arrangements were handled by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel.

      Henry W. Rokos
      Died November 25, 2000
      TRAVERSE CITY - Henry W. Rokos, 90, of Traverse City, died on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      He was born on July 2, 1910, in Chicago, Ill., to Frank J. and Anna (Topinka) Rokos. He married Frances L. Kroupa on June 7, 1938. She survives him.
      He graduated from St. Francis High School in 1928 and received a Bachelor of Science in commerce degree in 1934 from the University of Notre Dame. He served as elected Grand Traverse County Treasurer for about 12 years and retired in 1974. Prior to that he was employed at several Traverse City banks.
      He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where he was an usher, worked on numerous fund drives and was a member of the Variety Club and the Men's Club. He also was a member of the Notre Dame Club of Northern Michigan. He enjoyed fishing, walking and Notre Dame football.
      Surviving besides his wife, are two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (Daniel) Stainforth of Elk Rapids and Mary Frances Condit of Scotts; two brothers, Victor Rokos and Richard (Eleanor) Rokos, both of Traverse City; four grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Elizabeth Kreitz; a stepsister, Dorothy Kroupa; and a sister-in-law, Bette Rokos.
      Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where friends may call one hour prior to the service. The Rev. James Hayden will officiate. Interment will be at Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools or Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Jack I. Yencich
      Died November 25, 2000
      ELK RAPIDS - Jack I. Yencich of Lansing and formerly of Elk Rapids, age 89, left to join his loving bride, November 25, 2000. Born September 14, 1911, in Mineral City, Kan., Mr. Yencich loved golfing, gardening, "puttering" around in the yard, and spending time at their home on Birch Lake with family and friends. He was a member of the Elk Rapids Golf Club, the Sacred Heart Chorale, and the Industrial Executives Club.
      Mr. Yencich was preceded in death on November 3, 2000, by his wife of 54 years, Lucille.
      Surviving are three daughters, Patricia (Rick) Carrow and Kathleen Yencich, both of Lansing, and Judith (Jon) Martin of Mason; one son, Steven (Linda) Yencich of DeWitt; seven grandchildren, Delaney, Darcy, Kyle, Jennifer, Daniel, Jason and Becky; and one brother, Frank (Marge) Yencich of Illinois.
      The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 29, at 1 p.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3815 S. Cedar St., Lansing, with Father John Byers, pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. There also will be a memorial service for both he and his wife at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Elk Rapids, at a time to be announced later.
      In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those desiring make memorial contributions to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909-9986, whose staff so lovingly and compassionately cares for so many as they make this final journey.
