LILLIAN M. CORNELL, 83, of Alba and Vernon, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix. She was born Feb. 23, 1917, in Alba.
      The family will receive friends from 1 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona and from 1 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Homes, Inc. in Corunna. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Homes, Inc. in Corunna.
     
      EMMETT 'JACK' DUNLOW, JR., 59, of Frederic, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2000, at home.
      Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Maple Forest Township Cemetery.
     
      VELDA ELIZABETH MARSHALL, 91, of Grayling, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling. She was June 16, 1909, in Ontario, Canada.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, where visitation will continue from 10 a.m. Monday until the time of service. Burial will be in Lovells Cemetery in Lovells.
     
      CHARLES EDWARD MCKENZIE, 71, of Fife Lake, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000.
      A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Fife Lake American Legion Hall. Arrangements are being handled by MacDonald's Funeral Home in Howell.
     
      Reuben James 'Jim' Helton
      Died October 15, 2000
      SCHULENBURG, Texas - Reuben James "Jim" Helton, of Schulenburg, Texas and Traverse City, Mich., passed away Sunday at his Texas home. Mr. Helton was the owner and president of Gas Compression Services, a nationally known corporation with facilities throughout Texas, Louisiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Michigan.
      He was born in Muldoon, Texas. After graduating from Flatonia High School, Jim joined the Marines where he served in Vietnam and later became the crew chief on "Marine One," the White House helicopter, during President Johnson's administration.
      Following his tour of duty, he entered the gas and oil business. After a short time, he founded his company continuing to expand for 22 years, employing over 300 people. Mr. Helton recently sold his company to Universal Compression, Inc., retiring to Schulenburg and his beloved ranch in Weimar.
      Jim was a man of many talents; a consummate businessman, a superior provider for his loved ones, a tough Marine, a steady, almost unbeatable, golfer, a "real life" cowboy, and last but not least, a disciplined leader, who will be dearly missed by his family and the friends to whom he was so hospitable. We shall always miss you, Jim Helton. If heaven needs any shaping up, we know that with you there, we can consider the job done.
      Surviving are his wife, Susan; father, Reuben; sons, Chad, Lance, Judd and Justan; sisters, Ruby Mach, Audrey Bohac, Sally Eistner, Patsy McKuen and La Nell McIllwain; a brother, Ben; and grandchildren, Kyle and Hanna.
      A memorial service in Michigan will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Central Methodist Church of Traverse City.

      Lyle Pratt
      Died October 17, 2000
      HONOR - Lyle Pratt, 87, of Honor, died Tuesday at The Maples in Frankfort. Lyle was a retired truck driver for the Benzie County Road Commission.
      Born April 26, 1913, in Oneal, he was the son of Hosea Benjamin and Olive Jane (Brotherton) Pratt. In 1965, in Traverse City, he married the former Ardith Hammond. In 1978, in Frankfort, he married the former Jesse Haas.
      Survivors include stepdaughters, Darlene (Julius) Heniser of Frankfort and Katherine Anderson of Flint; stepsons, Paul Hammond of Honor, Jim Hammond of Frankfort, Gerald (Lois) Hammond of Beulah and Charles (Betty) Hammond of Traverse City; a step-daughter-in-law, Lois Morris of Tacoma, Wash.; several grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      He was one of triplets, himself and two sisters, Laura and Lena, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by both parents; four sisters, Myria, Olive, Eleanor and Helen; and three brothers, Milan, Willis and Gerald. His brother, Milan, was the second state trooper who was killed in the line of duty.
      Funeral services were held Saturday at Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah with Rev. Kathryn Coombs officiating. Burial was at Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
      Memorials may be directed to The Maples - Benzie County Medical Care Facility or to the charity of one's choice.
