Obituaries

NEDRA D. BLIXBERG, 87, of Moran and Traverse City, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Dodson Funeral Home in St. Ignace. Local arrangements are by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      SHIRLEY Y. STICKLES, 75, of Interlochen, died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at her home.
      A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beulah. Cremation has taken place. A full obituary will appear at a later date. Local arrangements are being handled by the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah.
     
      Dennis Downey
      Died September 22, 2000
      FIFE LAKE - Dennis Downey, 50, of Fife Lake and Manton, died Friday as a result of an accident in Cadillac.
      Born Sept. 26, 1949, in Fife Lake, he was the son of DeBlenna and Julia (Mills) Downey.
      Dennis grew up in Fife Lake and graduated from Manton High School in 1968. He then served in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a truck driver for 25 years for many companies including Dowell, Blarney Castle and Crystal Flash. He was a hard worker and had been the principal caregiver for his mother until her death.
      Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Downey of Fife Lake; a grandson, Jason Downey; two brothers, Thomas (Melvina) Downey of Fife Lake and Dale (Sue) Downey of Fife Lake; two sisters, Janet (Kenneth) Tidey of Manton and Iva Welch of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel, two years ago; a brother, Robert, in July; his parents; and an infant sister, Rita.
      Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Robert Lanning of the Rollins Church officiating. Burial will be in Fife Lake Cemetery.
     
      Eloise J. Guernsey
      Died September 22, 2000
      TRAVERSE CITY - Eloise J. Guernsey, of Traverse City, died Friday at Tendercare.
      Born March 29, 1916, in Wexford, she was the daughter of Albert and Eddis (Weatherby) Guernsey.
      Eloise was a rural school teacher in Grand Traverse County from 1935 to 1942. She then worked as a dining room supervisor at the Traverse City State Hospital. She worked in the Department of Social Services in Coldwater from 1945 to 1961. From 1961 until her retirement in 1974 she was a Department of Social Services Administrator. She returned to the Traverse City area in 1975. After retirement, Eloise volunteered her time to social services and mental health programs. She dearly loved her involvement with the Asbury United Methodist Church. She also helped at Hillview Terrace Apartments.
      Survivors include a sister, Lucille (Mrs. Herbert) Steed of Interlochen; a niece, Fayma (Dean) Kuhn of Traverse City; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Edmund Guernsey.
      Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. William Haggard officiating. Burial will be in Cornell Cemetery.
      Memorials may be directed to the Asbury United Methodist Church.
