Obituaries

BELLAIRE - Robert N. Schoof, 70, of Bellaire, died on Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Born in Northville on July 20, 1930, he was the son of Norman S. and Eva Merle (Greenman) Schoof. He graduated from Bellaire High School with the class of 1948, and from Michigan State University in 1956. He was a veteran of the Korean War.
      On July 7, 1950, in Bellaire, he married the former Irene Jean Steiner. He worked for many years for Spartan Stores, Inc., retiring as a vice-president in 1990. Upon retirement he moved from Grand Rapids to Bellaire, where he enjoyed golfing and reading. He was a member of the Bellaire United Methodist Church.
      Bob is survived by his wife, Jean of Bellaire; daughter, Jody Schoof of Traverse City; two sons, Robert N. (Meri) Schoof, Jr. of Britton and Mark S. (Diane) Schoof of Grand Rapids; brother, Jack (Alice) Schoof of Charlevoix; sister, Helen (Max) Richards of Bellaire; four grandchildren, Tom, Andy, Elizabeth and Toby Schoof; and five nieces.
      He was preceded in death by his parents.
      A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Bellaire United Methodist Church with Rev. Mary Brown officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Bellaire.

      GERALD A. MALTBY, 70, of Bellaire, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at D. J. Jacobetti Michigan Home for Veterans in Marquette. He was born March 25, 1931, in Charlevoix.
      Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Bellaire. Arrangements by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      LORIS "MIKE" RICHARD GOSS, 70, of Kaleva, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at his residence. He was born on April 3, 1931, in Grand Rapids.
      Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2001, at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. The Terwilliger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
     
      GRETCHEN E. SOUTHARD, 77, of Grayling, died on Thursday, April 12, 2001, at her home. She was born on Oct. 12, 1923.
      Visitation will be held at noon until time of services on Monday at the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel. A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling.
     
      DOROTHY A. MOONEY, 78, of Traverse City, died Friday evening at a local nursing home.
      Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. A full obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
      JOSEPH C. JACH, 72, of Manistee, died April 7, 2001, at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla.
      Visitation will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. until time of mass at the Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee. A memorial mass will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements have been handled by the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee.
