April 16, 2001ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Dorothy A. Mooney, 78, of Traverse City, died Friday evening at a local nursing home.She was born July 24, 1922 in Warren, Ohio, to Lawrence and Harriet (Viskochil) Hartz. On Aug. 8, 1945 in Reno, Nev., she married Francis A. Mooney, who preceded her in death in 1995. A homemaker, Mrs. Mooney was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and served during World War II in the Women's Army Corps as a dental assistant. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing Bingo and reading. Survivors include two sons, Pat (Ellen) Mooney of Traverse City and John (Darlene) Mooney of Florida; three daughters, Mary Ann (Paul) Acker of Williamsburg, Barbara Mooney of California and Maureen Zemke of Fife Lake; one sister, Alice (Marv) Treash of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Patricia Hartz of Plymouth; a special friend, Nancy Street; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with a Rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church with the Rev. James Gardiner as celebrant. Memorials may be directed to St. Francis Catholic Church or to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. WALTER H. BAKER, 73, died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 at his home in Boyne Falls. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at the Mancelona Baptist Church. Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. of Mancelona is in charge of the arrangements. NEAL L. CARRIER, 53, of Benzonia, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Munson Medical Center. Services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. from Eden Bible Church in Beulah, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the services. Interment will be in Homestead Township Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. GWENDOLYN GINTHER, 86, of Traverse City, died at home on Sunday, April 15, 2001. Arrangements are pending. The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. LESTER LAZELL, 97, died Saturday, April 14, 2001 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. |
