Raftshol, 81, of Suttons Bay, died on Wednesday at the Leelanau Memorial Health Center.She was born on Sept. 26, 1919, in Baltimore, Md., the daughter of Charles and Clarabell (Harden) Curtis. On June 15, 1941, in Suttons Bay, she married Karl J. Raftshol, who preceded her in death in 1977. Jean was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. She graduated from Michigan State College. She liked to pick wild strawberries and enjoyed playing Scrabble, which she played nearly every day. Jean was also a custom dress maker during the 1970s. She is survived by her three children, Karlyn Raftshol Lange of Durango, Colo., Warren Raftshol of Suttons Bay and Curtis (Lynda) Raftshol of Frankfort, Germany; and four grandchildren, Christian, Susan Lange, Olivia and Guy Raftshol. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Ann Hargrave. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay with the Rev. Paul E. Kuhlman officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Leelanau Memorial Care Center. Arrangements are being handled by the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. WILLIAMSBURG - Marion R. Simon, 89, of Williamsburg, formerly of Fife Lake, died on Thursday at Hope Village. Born in Toledo, Ohio, on Nov. 13, 1911, she was the daughter of Earl and Ruth Harris Boyer. On Aug. 18, 1931, in Detroit, she married Carl R. Simon, who preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1992. Mrs. Simon resided in Clearwater, Fla. until 1983, when she moved to Fife Lake. She was a member of the Fife Lake United Methodist Church, and enjoyed gardening, sewing and working as a volunteer. She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Jeff) Hayes of Fife Lake; a brother, William Boyer; three sisters, Alice Miller, Dorothy Flynn and Betty DeRosa; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Stoliker and a brother, Robert Boyer. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Hope Village. Rev. Howard Seaver will officiate. Memorial gifts may be directed to the American Heart Association or the Fife Lake United Methodist Church. Arrangements were made by Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. MELVINA DOWNEY, 70, of Fife Lake, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Munson Medical Center. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. and any time Monday before the service. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. Cremation will follow the service with burial at Fife Lake Cemetery. DOROTHY K. JOHNSON, 92, of Beulah, passed away at her residence on Friday, April 20, 2001. Friends may call at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah on Monday from 5 until 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Homestead Township Cemetery. A full obituary will also appear in Monday's paper. FLORENCE E. ROBBINS, 82, of Mancelona, died Friday, April 20, 2001, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Church. The family was served by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. JEAN LORENE CARLTON, 66, of Traverse City, died Friday afternoon, April 20, 2001, at Munson Medical Center following a long illness. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church were friends may call at the time of service. DORRIS MAE GUMBUS, 86, of Manistee, died on Friday, April 20, 2001, at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee. Visitation will be held on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Saint John Cantius Catholic Church in Free Soil. BERNICE F. BACHINSKI, 98, of Manistee, died on Friday, April 20, 2001, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. LEONARD E. MADAGAME, 74, died on Friday, April 20, 2001, at his home in Alba. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Home, Inc. in Mancelona.
