Obituaries

ROCHESTER - Richard "Rick" James Herald, 51, of Rochester, formerly of Elk Rapids, died Thursday in Rochester.
      He was born July 31, 1950, in Traverse City, the son of Willard and Aunhild (Johnson) Herald. On July 26, 1978, in Traverse City, he married the former Lila "Jody" Belonga.
      Richard worked as a drywall hanger and finisher.
      He is survived by his wife, Lila "Jody" Herald of Rochester; two daughters Josette (Phillip) French of Westland and Sherri (Lynn) Walls of Rochester Hills; son Dwane Mallory of Rochester; two sisters Judy (Gale) Stites of Elk Rapids and Patricia (Duane) Groleau of Traverse City; brother William (Florence) Herald of Traverse City; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents.
      Graveside services will be at noon Monday at the Circle Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Judith A. Parkinson, 61, of Traverse City, died on Saturday.
      Loving wife of Wayne for 42 years; dear mother of Laura (David) Kopke, Jane (Jeffrey) Wilson and Daniel; and adoring grandmother of seven.
      Memorial service will be held on Aug. 10, 2001, at 1 p.m. at St. Therese of Lisiux located at 21 1/2 mile in Schoenherr, Shelby Township in Michigan.
      Memorials may be made to Hospice of Michigan or to the American Cancer Society.
     
      Services for BERNARD ACKERMAN, who died Thurs. Aug., 2, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Mon. from Grawn Bible Methodist Church in Grawn. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
     
      DENNIS R. APPLETON, 57 of Elberta, died Saturday morning at Munson Medical Center.
      Services will be held Tuesday, August 7th at 11 a.m. from the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes with Pastor Rick Stieve, officiating. Interment will follow in Gilmore Twp. Cemetery. Friends may meet with the family from 9 a.m. till time of services Tuesday morning.
     
      A Memorial Service for ALBERT C. BLANKENSHIP, who died on March 16, 2001, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at 11 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church in Traverse City. Mr. Blankenship was a long time resident of Traverse City and died in Surprise, Ariz.
     
      SAMUEL W. TROVATO, 80, of Traverse City, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at home.
      Cremation has taken place and a gathering of family and friends will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will take place at Asbury United Methodist Church on Monday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ted Hastings officiating. Burial will be in Deepdale Memorial Park, Lansing.
