Geraldine Calvert Delahanty
Died August 5, 2001
TRAVERSE CITY - Geraldine Calvert Delahanty, 77, of Royal Oak died Sunday at Grand Traverse Pavilions following a lengthy illness.
Born Dec. 29, 1923, in Highland Park, she was the daughter of Abraham and Anna (McDonald) Calvert. Geraldine graduated from Marygrove College, and on Jan. 25, 1947, she married John J. Delahanty, who preceded her in death in 1978.
Geraldine is survived by her children, John Patrick Delahanty of Royal Oak and Catherine Delahanty (George) McKay of Traverse City. Also surviving are six grandchildren John Gwillim, Christine Gwillim, Barbara McKay, Anne McKay, all of Traverse City, and Cole Delahanty and Cara Delahanty of Royal Oak.
Geraldine was a faithful member of Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church in Birmingham, where she served as a member of the church choir.
Prior to the onset of her illness, Geraldine was an avid gardener, enjoyed interior decorating and was an accomplished artist. She will be missed by her family and friends.
Cremation has taken place, and interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield at a later date.
Friends may call from 7 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. At 8 p.m., the Rosary will be prayed. The Rev. Fr. James Gardiner will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Pavilions Alzheimer's Unit.
Stanley "Stan" Besaw
Died August 5, 2001
TRAVERSE CITY - Stanley Besaw, 73, of Traverse City, a resident of Long Lake Twp. for 33 years, passed away Saturday at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 15, 1927 in Detroit to Clarence and Mabel (McLean) Besaw and moved to Traverse City in the early 1950s.
On Oct. 27, 1962, he married Doris (Dottie) Green in Saunderstown, R. I.
Stan served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years, the Sea Bees and was a World War II veteran. He attended Redford High School in Detroit. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church for many years. Stan retired from Cone Drive Gear in 1989 after 39 years.
Stan enjoyed many family gatherings, especially large family Thanksgiving dinners and camping with the entire family, spending many special times with his grandchildren, his many fishing trips to Canada with friends Allan, Jim, and Bill Stebner.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie; children Pamela L. (Robert C.) Braim of Elk Rapids, Steven Besaw of Melbourne, Fla., Nancy (Robert) Storring of Jensen Beach, Fla.; grandchildren Ryan Besaw, Alex and Aaron Braim; brothers Gordon W. (Sylvia) of Traverse City, James F. (Miriam) of Traverse City, Lawrence A. (Janet) of Mason; and sister Phyllis M. (Harold) Ward of Traverse City; Uncle Burl (Nina) McLean of Kalkaska; sister and brother-in-law Kurt and Marcia Krause of Red Wing, Minn.; and many special nieces, nephews, and especially Sue Gibson and Cindi Blattenberger, who assisted in his nursing care while he was at home.
Stan was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, mother and father-in-law Lawrence and Ethel Green, sister-in-law, Mary Lou Besaw and many aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Traverse City. The Rev. William Haggard will be officiating.
Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
Burial will take place at Linwood Cemetery, Long Lake Twp.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Asbury United Methodist Church, Munson Hospice or charity of choice.
