      Died December 2, 2001
      OLD MISSION PENNINSULA - Maxine L. Kniss, 76, a life long resident of Old Mission Penninsula, died on Sunday.
      She was born on May 6, 1926, in Traverse City, the daughter of Alfred and Lois (Tompkins) Kroupa. On Sept. 13, 1944, in Old Mission Penninsula, she married Percy Kniss.
      Maxine enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening and was very involved in running the family cherry orchard. A kind and gentle spirit, she will be missed by many.
      She is survived by her husband, Percy, of Old Mission Penninsula; two children, Bonnie (John) Sinning of Lowell and Alfred (Susan) Kniss of Old Mission Penninsula; a sister, Loisa (Joseph) Kratky of Traverse City; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her parents.
      Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Stanley Hayes officiating. Interment will be in the Ogdensburg United Methodist Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Ogdensburg United Methodist Church.
      Wesley James LaFayette
      Died December 3, 2001
      MANCELONA - Wesley James LaFayette, 62, of Mancelona, passed away at his residence on Monday after a courageous two year battle with brain cancer.
      He was born on Jan. 25, 1939, in Marquette to the late Louis and Ida (Johnson) LaFayette.
      Wesley graduated from Marquette High School in 1957 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served until 1961. After his discharge he became an officer with the Michigan State Police Department. In 1966 he transferred to the Department of Natural Resources as a conservation officer where he served until his retirement in 1989. Since his retirement Wes could be found on any given day fishing on his favorite lake. He devoted his life to the protection and preservation of the wildlife he so loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
      Wes is survived by his wife, Sharlene Sue; a daughter, Tina Wood and her husband, Joe of Wilmington, N.C.; a son, Mike LaFayette and his wife, Clara of Kalkaska; four grandchildren, Brian and Lesley Wood, and Ashley and Joel LaFayette; two stepchildren, Mike Thorne and his wife, Colleen of Mancelona and Cheri Ottgen and her husband, Ben of Mancelona; nine step-grandchildren; three brothers, Raymond of Seattle, Kenneth of Marquette and John of Fall City, Wash.
      He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward LaFayette.
      Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska from 5 to 9 p.m. The Funeral service will be on Thursday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Father Jim Holtz of St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church officiating. Interment will be at the Coldsprings Township Cemetery.
      MARVIN C. VANWORMER, 89, of Frankfort, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at The Maples Medical Care Facility in Frankfort.
      There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
     
      ESTHER M. HOWARD, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City.
      A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      A full obituary will appear in the Record-Eagle at a later date.
     
      JEAN F. CUNNINGHAM, 81, died on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2001, at his home in Coldsprings Township in Kalkaska County.
      No services are scheduled at this time. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona.
      Arrangements by the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona.
     
      GEORGE D. FERRIS, of Traverse City, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      TERRANCE FORMA, 50, of Beaver Creek, died on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, in Grayling. He was born on Feb. 27, 1951, in Boston.
      A private family service was held.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling.
     
      LUCY MARIE RENO, 66, of Grayling, died on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2001, in Grayling. She was born on March 8, 1935, in Pontiac.
      Funeral services were held on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Gaylord, with President George Rosin officiating.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling.
      Madeleine P. Krum
      Died November 30, 2001
      ENGLEWOOD, Fla. - Madeleine P. Krum, 71, of Park Forest, died on Friday at her residence.
      She was born on March 22, 1930, in Quebec, Canada.
      She received her nursing degree from St. Joseph Hospital in Trois-Riviers, Quebec, Canada. Mrs. Krum retired from her nursing career as the head nurse with Grand Traverse Medical Care Facility in 1991 after 15 years. She also was employed as a head nurse for Botsford Hospital in Detroit.
      She was a communicant of St. Raphael Catholic Church.
      Survivors include her husband, David of Englewood, Fla.; one son, Phillip of Mt. Pleasant; one sister, Jacqueline Jacques of Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada; two brothers, Marcel Jacques of Charny, Quebec, Canada and Albert Jacques of St. Henedine, Quebec, Canada; and three grandchildren.
      Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church with interment in the Memorial Garden.

      Englewood Community Funeral Home has been selected to handle arrangements.
      **FLAG** Floyd Donald Skinner
      Died November 28, 2001
      GULF SHORES, Ala. - Floyd Donald Skinner, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday in Gulf Shores, Ala.
      Born in Detroit on July 15, 1918, to Ada (Bellamy) and Earl Skinner. He graduated from the University of Michigan, also earning a MBA from there.
      Mr. Skinner was a veteran who served in the Navy as an officer aboard the Enterprise during World War II. Mr. Skinner's career was in accounting in both private and government employment. He was active in the Elks and Lions Clubs in past years and had currently volunteered at Pensacola Naval Museum where he spoke about the history of the Enterprise and World War II.
      He was a great family man who enjoyed telling a good joke and also hearing one. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren. Chips, his devoted dog, was a great companion to him. Mr. Skinner was an avid reader especially with current events and the economy. He loved outside work and beautifying his yard. He was loved by many friends and will be missed by family and friends. Mr. Skinner was a member of St. Philip Neri parish in Empire.
      Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Hope; three daughters, Nadine Byrne (Terry), Karen Szukalski (Gene) and Denise Doherty and a son, James Skinner. In addition nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren survive.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and brother.
      Ida Jean Voss
      Died November 30, 2001
      FARMINGTON HILLS - Ida Jean Voss, 87, of Farmington Hills, died on Friday.
      Beloved wife of the late Ray A. Voss. Loving mother of Ray (Ellen) and Sandra (Tim) Springer, all of Farmington Hills.
      Survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. from Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Birmingham.
      Memorials may be made to Alzeheimers or choice.

      Maynard "Wade" LeCrone
      Died December 1, 2001
      TRAVERSE CITY - Maynard "Wade" LeCrone, 93, died Saturday in Traverse City.
      Born Aug. 28, 1908, in Broken Sword, Ohio, he was the son of A.C. and Cora A. (Gerhart) LeCrone.
      A long time resident of Traverse City, Wade was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
      He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
      Wade was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, the former Helen Leota Hunsicker on March 29, 1999.
      Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Bailey of Central United Methodist Church officiating.
      Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
