Obituaries

RAPID CITY - Leon Leroy Leach, 62, of Rapid City, and formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Leon was born on July 29, 1939, in Traverse City, the son of Ralph and Louise L. (Weber) Leach.
      Leon was a retired carpenter. He enjoyed bowling, softball, was an avid hunter and fisherman and generally loved the outdoors.
      Leon is survived by his wife, Joyce P. Leach of Rapid City; his sister, Elaine E. Brown of Traverse City; his six children, Margaret (Clarence) Bodkin, Lance (Patricia) Leach, Lonnie (Connie) Leach, Sherry (Steve) Porter, Larry (Lisa) Leach and Kimberly (Mark) Langston; stepchildren, Sharon (Dean) Veliquette, James (Debbie) Manley and Lois (Randy) LaRosa; 26 grandchildren; a niece, Debbie Axtell; and a nephew, Michael Brown.
      Leon was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Leach; his mother, Louise L. Wares; and his first wife, Karen A. Leach.
      Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home, with The Rev. Carey Waldie officiating. Interment will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      LAKE LEELANAU - William W. Gotshall, 81, of Lake Leelanau, and formerly of Orchard Lake, passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Bill was born on May 1, 1920, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Glenn and Blanche (Hayward) Gotshall. He married the former Jeanne Moffett on Aug. 12, 1944, in Detroit.
      Bill was employed for many years by Marathon Oil and Carbon Development Corporation as a chemical engineer. Upon his retirement in 1982, he moved to Lake Leelanau.
      Bill was a Michigan State University alumni and an avid Spartans fan. He was very active in the Lamplighters Club of Leland, a past officer of the East Leland Property Owners Association, a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the International Coffee Club of Leland. Bill was a very happy man to the end and enjoyed life and people. He especially loved spending time with his family, music, sailing and the water. He was a staunch Republican, being an avid representative of conservative thinking.
      Bill is survived by three children, Lynn Green of Lake Leelanau, Susan Quinlan of Milford and Glenn (Bonnie) Gotshall of Traverse City; his eight grandchildren, Shane, Kelly, Will, Robby, Danny, Jamie, Stacey and Krista; and his cat, Lorelei.
      Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne, in 1994; one son, William Gotshall; and one brother, George Gotshall.
      A Service of Remembrance is to be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Suttons Bay Congregational Church, with The Rev. James Beadle officiating. Interment will be in Pine Lake Cemetery in Orchard Lake.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Lower Elm (Assisted Living) of the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      GWENDOLYN N. LEEMON, 91 of Bellaire, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2001, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
      There are no services planned at this time.

      E. "BILL" RUSNELL, 92, of Alba, passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his home.
      The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc., of Mancelona.
     
      MARLENE L. VANBROCKLIN, 56, of Frankfort, passed away on Friday evening, Dec. 14, 2001, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital.
      The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
