December 28, 2001ObituariesBOYNE CITY - Robert "Bob" Brown, 77, of Boyne City and Ocala, Fla., beloved husband and father, passed away on Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, while visiting family in the Detroit area for the holidays.Bob was an avid golfer and huge University of Michigan fan. He was also a member of the American Legion. Bob is survived by his wife, Edith; his children, Ellen (Dennis) Boulanger of Lake Ann, James L. (Linda) Brown, Peter (Rose) Brown, June Brown and son-in-law, Tom Pudlo, all of the Detroit area; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Pudlo. Services have already taken place. The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the charity of one's choice. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. CARLYLE LEWIS BEALS, 74, of Gaylord, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001. Services took place Thursday, Dec. 27, at the Turner-Engle Funeral Home in Tiffin, Ohio, (419) 447-1221. JOSEPH GUERRERO, age 72, of Paris, Mich., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at his home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Oak Grove Cremation Center is in charge of funeral arrangements. JESSIE JALOCHA, age 83, of Free Soil, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at the Manistee County Medical Facility. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, at the Oak Grove Cremation Center. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. The Oak Grove Cremation Center is in charge of arrangements. GOLDIE KERBYSON, 82, of Kalkaska, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. this evening at the Apsey Funeral Home in Deckerville. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Apsey Funeral Home. Arrangements by the Wolfe Funeral Home of Kalkaska. JEAN R. SMELTZER, 79, of Frankfort, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 26, 2001, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital. The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Home. JAMES A. VANDERGRIFF, 49, of Mancelona, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. TRAVERSE CITY - Charles W. Kummer Sr., 74, of Traverse City, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2001. Charles served his country during World War II. He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America and the Boys Club. Charles was the loving father of Beth Boyce, Charles Kummer Jr., Walter Kummer and Terri Kummer; the dear grandfather of Matthew, John and Emily Kummer; and dearest brother of Katherine Saks, Dorothy Fortney and Patricia Fecker. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elise. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Pixley Funeral Home, Godhardt-Tomlinson Chapel in Keego Harbor. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, at the funeral home. Interment will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Troy. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Boys and Girls Club of S.E. Michigan. FIFE LAKE - Elizabeth Barton, age 80, of Fife Lake, passed away on Christmas day at her home. Elizabeth was born on Sept. 25, 1921, in Alsask, Saskatchewan, Canada to Sidney and Verna (Scully) Gage. On Nov. 23, 1942, in Montrose, she married Howard Barton. Elizabeth grew up in the Flint area and then lived in Argentine until moving to Fife Lake in 1987. She was employed as a leather tailor in Fenton for 17 years. She enjoyed cooking, and finding new recipes in cookbooks to try, sewing, gardening, reading and doing crossword puzzles. She attended the Fife Lake United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Methodist Women's Group. She also worked diligently for the Care and Share Food Pantry in Fife Lake sponsored by the church. Elizabeth is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte (Frank) Blake of Fife Lake and Pamela (Gary) Goldner of Goodyear, Ariz.; two brothers, Emerson Gage of Escanaba and Edgar (Kewpie) Gage of Munising; one sister, Eleanore Shaw of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Howard on Nov. 23, 1986; her brother, Earl and an infant sister, Elaine. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002 at the Fife Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Howard D. Seaver officiating. Memorial gifts may be made in memory of Elizabeth Barton to the Care and Share Food Pantry, c/o the Fife Lake United Methodist Church. Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton was in charge of the arrangements. |
