December 29, 2001ObituariesLAKE LEELANAU - Albion Eli Brow, age 90, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.Albion was born on March 24, 1911, in Centerville Township to Ferdinand and Ellen (Gauthier) Brow. On June 14, 1934, he married Orpha Garnet Priest in Lake Leelanau. Albion spent his adult life working as a farmer, a carpenter and a mason. He enjoyed fishing but really loved spending quality time with his grandchildren and special great-grandson. Albion is survived by his daughter, Phyllis Dunklow of Lake Leelanau; his granddaughter, Marilyn (David) Fortuna of Suttons Bay; his grandson, Barry Dunklow of Lake Leelanau; and his step-grandson, Jacob Fortuna of Lansing; his special great-grandson, Zachary Eli Fortuna; two sisters, Betty Heron of Florida and Edith Priest of Monroe; his sister-in-law, Iris Brugh of Traverse City; and many nieces and nephews. Albion was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Orpha, on Oct. 27, 1999; his son-in-law, Marvin Dunklow, five brothers, Arthur, Dennis, Napoleon, Edmund and Clifford; and three sisters, Florence, Matilda and Louise. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. A rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. Rev. Jerry Hunko will be the celebrant. Interment will take place in Keswick Maple Grove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's School, or to Mass Intentions. KINGSLAND, Texas - Leta Pauline (Marsh) Saul, 83, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, in Kingsland, Texas, following a brief battle with cancer. Leta was born on Feb. 12, 1918, in Kingsley, the daughter of John H. and Minnie F. (Bancroft) Marsh. She graduated from Kingsley High School in 1936. Leta married Frank C. Saul on May 23, 1939. Leta and Frank moved to rural Buckley, where they lived until 1941, at which time they moved to Mesick. A longtime resident of Mesick, Leta was an avid cook and gardener. Along with her husband, Leta was a champion billiards player in the Mesick area. They owned and operated Liberty Fruit just outside of Buckley for ten years and then owned and operated a gas station and farm implement store for over 30 years. Leta is survived by her four children, Marlene (Edward) Bradley of Grand Rapids, Betty (Mitchell) Suthard of Kingsland, Texas, Robert Frank Saul of Mesick and Mr. and Mrs. Carl Saul of Plainwell; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Zola Bareis of Costa Mesa, Calif.; his brother, Loyd Marsh of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Leta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; two sisters; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. A rosary will be recited and a wake service held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. on Sunday. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Copemish, with the Rev. Richard Kosterman as celebrant. COPEMISH - Ivan Maxwell Dixon, 71, of Copemish, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort. Ivan was born on March 4, 1930, in Grant Township, the son of Ralph Raymond and Pearl Lillian (Perry) Dixon. Ivan was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the American Legion Read-Osborne Post. Ivan worked at NORGE in Muskegon until moving to Copemish in 1963. He then worked as a concrete block maker, until becoming a roofer for High-Boy Builders in Copemish. Ivan enjoyed hunting and playing cards, and he loved to travel. Ivan is survived by his three sons, Kenneth Dixon of Traverse City, Michael (Sherry) Dixon of Copemish and Patrick Dixon of Copemish; his two daughters, Marjorie (Hardy) DeView of Austin, Texas, and Marcia (Richard) Boyd of St. Clair, Mich.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren; four brothers, John (Carol) Dixon of Muskegon, Leroy Dixon of Muskegon, Chester Dixon of Benzonia and Lawrence (Joyce) Dixon of Muskegon; his sister, Delcia (Glen) White of Marco Island, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Ivan was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Ruth Dixon, in 1994; his son, Ivan Richard Dixon, in 1971; his brother, Leon Dixon; and his sister, Ida Dixon. Friends may call at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah today from noon to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 30, from noon to 3 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home, with the Rev. GROVER FRANKLIN HODGES JR., 69, of Grawn, passed away at his home on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001. A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. The Rev. Bradley Will will be officiating.
