RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Marjorie G. Westerlund, 80, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Upland Rehabilitation Center in Upland, Calif.
      Marjorie was born in Holland, Mich., on June 12, 1921. She retired from the Benzie County Chamber of Commerce where she had worked for 15 years prior to moving to California seven years ago. Marjorie was a longtime member of the Central Wesleyan Church in Holland, and also attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Upland, Calif. Marjorie volunteered her services making stuffed animals for suffering children in underprivileged countries through International Aid.
      Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Lynnet (Dave) Burney of Gaylord, her son, Tom Westerlund of Grand Haven, and step son, Harold (Joyce) Westerlund of Holland, Mich.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her brothers, Gerald (Dorothy) Smeenge of Sun City, Ariz., and Ronald (Pat) Smeenge of Grand Haven; and her sisters, Marilyn Decker of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Esther Smeenge of Grand Haven.
      Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Westerlund, in 1992.
      A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Haven Shores Reformed Church on Hiawatha Drive at Filmore in Grand Haven. Inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Holland.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to International Aid, 17011 W. Hickory, Spring Lake, MI 49456.

      GRAWN - Grover Franklin Hodges Jr., 69, of Grawn, died Thursday at home.
      Born Jan. 19, 1932, in Dixon, Ill., he was the son of Grover and Ann (Turner) Hodges Sr. On July 7, 1982, in Munising, he married the former Thorna Tucker who survives.
      A resident of the area for 35 years, coming from Alpena, Mr. Hodges had been employed as a truck driver for Sara Lee and later was a self-employed driver. He served his country honorably with the United States Army.
      Other survivors include his sons, Michael Hodges of Traverse City and Don McQueer of Grawn; daughters, Denise Egeler of Traverse City and Teresa (Tony) Welch of Grawn; his mother, Ann Turner of Saginaw; one sister, Rose Ann Maxwell of Saginaw; eight grandchildren, Michael K. Hodges Jr., Matthew and Corey Egeler, Brandi, Brenda and Brooke Welch, Dustin McQueer and Dereck Moran; and one great-grandchild, Logan Brown.
      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Theresa Hodges; and his father, Grover Hodges Sr.
      A memorial service will be held at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 4 p.m. The Rev. Bradley Will will be officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grover Hodges Memorial Fund in care of Thorna Hodges.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Jerry Lee Wyskochil, 63, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 20, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born Dec. 6, 1938, in Traverse City, he was the son of Ervin Wyskochil and Leona (Avery) Schoepf. A native of the Traverse City area he attended Traverse City Central High School.
      Jerry was employed as the maintenance/care taker for the Neahtawana Home Association.
      He served his country honorably with the U. S. Navy on the USS Keppler.
      Survivors include his children, Mark (Brenda) Wyskochil of Traverse City, Kreg Wyskochil of Traverse City, Danielle (Chris) Glassmeyer of Wayne, Neb., Jeffrey Wyskochil of Wynantskill, N.Y., Betty (Rob) Philip of Traverse City, and Kasi (Roscoe) Ostyn of Grand Rapids; sister, Danielle Olmstead and family of Traverse City; brother, John Wyskochil and family of Chicago; uncle, Nahum (Muriel) Avery and family of Traverse City; aunt, Barbara Wyskochil and family of Mayfield; his nine grandchildren, Kristina, Amanda, Katie, Alexandra, Annica, Kylie, Emma, Billy, and Jacob; and one great-grandchild, Alyssa.
      Jerry was preceded in death by his parents.
      Jerry was a trusting, caring man who made many acquaintances and lasting friendships throughout the years. He will be missed greatly.
      Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Friday, Jan. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m., and continuing on Saturday, Jan. 5 from 12 to 2 p.m.
      Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dean Bailey of Central United Methodist Church officiating.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in care of Mark Wyskochil for a Memorial Fund being established.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - John J. Laskey Jr., 59, of Traverse City, died Friday at home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous 1 1/2 year battle with cancer.
      Born Feb. 27, 1942, in Cedar, he was the son of John J. Sr. and Matilda "Tillie" (Popa) Laskey On April 11, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, he married the former Delberta L. Lance who survives.
      John was a longtime member of St. Francis Catholic Church. He retired in June 2001, after 33 years employment with Consumers Energy. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, and umpiring and refereeing sporting events. In his younger years, John was a star basketball player for Glen Lake, and in 1959, during his junior year, he set the state finals scoring record with 32 points in the Class D Championship game.
      Other survivors include his three children, Eric (Lorna) Laskey of Traverse City; twin sons, Jeffery (Holly) Laskey of Traverse City, and Jason Laskey of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; grandson, Jonathan Laskey; sisters, Martha (Joseph) Czerniak and Jackie (Edward) Budd, both of Cedar; and numerous other relatives and many friends.
      John was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Mary Ann Dezelski.
      Visitation will be at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today from 2 to 8 p.m., and a rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Catholic Church on Monday, Dec. 31, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Father James Gardiner serving as celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Isadore in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Medical Center Oncology Unit, or Munson Hospice.
     
      DONALD R. EIMERS, 71, of Maple City, passed away on Saturday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements are pending with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      MARY KONSAVAGE, 76, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at her home.

      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      LUCILE (VIGLAND) REYNOLDS, 86, of Hudson, Fla., formerly of Frankfort, passed away on Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, 2001, at Regional Medical Center, Bayonet Point, in Hudson, Fla.
      The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
     
      Memorial services for JEAN RODAL SMELTZER, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, from Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort, with Pastor Rick Stieve officiating. Friends may meet with the family one hour prior to the services at the church.
      The family has requested memorial contributions in Jean's name be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, 955, James St., Frankfort, MI 49635.
