Alway, 83, a resident of Suttons Bay for the past 11 years, and formerly of Ann Arbor, died on Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Corine was born on Dec. 30, 1917, in Port Huron, the daughter of Glenn and Agnes (Kent) Pesha. On June 22, 1941, she married Donald LeRoy Alway. Corine was a homemaker. Corine is survived by two daughters, Cynthia and Jack McEntire of Durango, Colo., and Cherilyn and Michael Danielson of Elizabeth, Minn.; one son, Lawrence D. and Sandra Alway of Macomb, Mich.; 12 grandchildren, Charlotte, Catherine, Janice, David, Michelle, Jeanette, James, Matthew, Scott, Erin, Alex and DJ; and five great-grandchildren, Devin, Alicia, Cameron, Gunner and Gracie Marie. Corine was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Don, on April 29, 1996. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Jan. 3, from 11 a.m. until the time of service at Belltower Reformed Church, the corner of Church and Essex Road in Eastport. Funeral services will be held at the church on Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in Torch Lake. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Mary Konsavage Died December 28, 2001 TRAVERSE CITY - Mary Konsavage, 76, of Traverse City, and formerly of Dearborn, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born on Feb. 15, 1925, in Edwardsville, Pa., the daughter of Thomas and Gwendolyn (Jones) Golightly. On Aug. 4, 1945, she married Alex Konsavage, in Houston, Texas. Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, Alex, of Traverse City; her two daughters, Cheryl Konsavage of Traverse City and Linda (Dean) Bratsis of Traverse City; her grandson, Jon Bratsis of Traverse City; her brother, Richard (Wilma) Golightly of Houston, Texas; her two sisters, Margaret Sinclair and Louise Tesar, both of Pennsylvania; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, June Nafus; and her brother, Thomas Golightly. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with Pastor David Ramage officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. **FLAG** Donald Robert Eimers Died December 29, 2001 MAPLE CITY - Donald Robert Eimers, 71, of Maple City, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Formerly of Saginaw, Mr. Eimers had been a resident of Maple City since 1964. Don served in the U.S. Navy. Over the years, he was employed as a carpenter with the Keift and Dorsey Construction Company, the Paul Mauer Company and the Easling Construction Company, retiring in 1991. Don also ran a bait shop from his Maple City home. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Born May 18, 1930, in Saginaw, he was the son of Oliver and Margaret (Decker) Eimers. On April 15, 1953, in Saginaw, he married Madlyn Barrigar. Don is survived by his wife, Madlyn, his five children, Deborah Rock of Maple City, David (Mary) Eimers of Maple City, Dennis (Barb) Eimers of Traverse City, Tammy (Steve) Collins of Holland and Robert Eimers of Canada; two stepsons, Gary Clink of Florida and Larry (Peg) Clink of Karlin; his brother, Howard of Saginaw; his half brother, Brian Meissner of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Mary Eimers of Saginaw; stepfather, Lyman Meissner of Saginaw; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four nephews; and three aunts. Don was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Diane, his brother, Edward; and his grandson, Jeremy Rock. A time to remember and celebrate Don's life will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Lions Club in Maple City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Jean Rodal Smeltzer Died December 26, 2001 FRANKFORT - Jean Rodal Smeltzer, 79, was called home to the Lord on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2001. She passed away as a result of the injuries sustained in an automobile accident. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Clinton W. Smeltzer; her son, David, his wife, Jennifer Smeltzer and their children, Abigail and Madeleine Rose of Bear Lake; her daughter, Elizabeth Smeltzer Erdman, her children, Alexander and Hannah of Atlanta, Ga. Jean's sweet disposition and gentle manner will be greatly missed by her family, her adoring sister, Elaine Rodal Ernst of Ooltewah, Tenn.; her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and her many nieces and nephews. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; and her brother-in-law, Keith Ernst. Jean was born in Frankfort, the first child of Violet and Otto Rodal, on July 16, 1922. She was united in marriage to Clinton Wass Smeltzer on June 29, 1946. They settled in Bear Lake to raise their family. Jean's passion for gardening, cooking, preservation of her Norwegian heritage and involvement in the church are widely known. Many deem Jean's friendship their good fortune. Services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Frankfort at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Funeral arrangements were handled by McElduff Funeral Homes, Frankfort. RAYMOND D. WILKIE, 64, of Kalkaska, died on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, in Kalkaska. He was born on Jan. 23, 1937, in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Victory Baptist Church in South Boardman. |
