TRAVERSE CITY - Steven Richard Cosgrove, 41, died Wednesday at New River Valley Medical Center in Christianburg, Va.
      Steven was the son of James Douglas and Kathleen (Krohn) Cosgrove, born on February 20, 1959, in Traverse City. Steven married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lee Bugai, in 1978 in Traverse City, and loved her the rest of his life.
      Steven's life-long passions were cherry farming and operating heavy equipment. He was an avid hunter and could often be found fishing trout on Wheeler Creek. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his three children and many nieces and nephews. Steven was known to them and many other children he came into contact with as "Big Steve".
      Steven is survived by his three children, James Douglas III, Steven Richard, Jr. and Mary "Alicia"; his parents and sisters, Kathleen Debra (David) Ott, Shirley Elizabeth (James) Sullivan, Leslie Karen (Scott) Young and Coleen Sue (Shawn) Keane; and many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his grandparents and brother, James Douglas II.
      Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor William Smith with officiate. Burial will take place at Ogdensburg Cemetery.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
     
PESHAWBESTOWN - Florence Y. Hill, 78, of Peshawbestown, died Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      She was born September 27, 1922 in Peshawbestown, the daughter of Archie and Susan (Yanot) Miller, and returned to Peshawbestown in 1992 from Chicago.
      Florence was a retired laundry supervisor for a Chicago hospital and was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Florence followed the traditional ceremonies of her people and loved her family very much. They all meant a lot to her, including her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her many special nieces and nephews. A member of Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Peshawbestown, Florence was a staunch Chicago Cubs fan. She also enjoyed her many cats and collecting cat memorabilia. Active in holiday events when she lived at the Elders Complex, she had a special holiday-themed costume for each occasion.
      Florence is survived by her son, Gerald (Mickey) Luskey; her granddaughters, Michelle Luskey and Jerri Lynn Luskey, all of Peshawbestown; her great-grandchildren, Nichelle, Danielle, Victoria, Sonia, Mistyrose, Carmen, Taylor, Dylan, Shaina and Kanda; her sisters, Alvina Marshall and Irene Otto; and brother, Leonard Miller, all of Peshawbestown; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Patricia; her sister, Esther Koon; and by her brothers, Archie Miller, Nick Gingway and Ivan Miller.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church in Peshawbestown, with Fr. Andy as celebrant. Friends may call at the church after 3 p.m. on Monday. There will be visitation as well on Tuesday during the day and evening, with the Rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery following cremation.
      Memorials may be directed to the Elder Committee, to be used to build a Sacred Fire Pit in Florence's memory.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
HOLLAND - Ann Marie (Warner) Brownell, 60, of Holland, died Thursday at her home.
      "When we have done all the work we were sent to earth to do - we are allowed to shed our body, which imprisons our soul like a cocoon encloses the future butterfly and when the time is right we can let go of it and we will be free of pain, free of fears and worries, free as a very beautiful butterfly, returning home to God which is a place where we are never alone, where we can continue to grow and to sing and dance, where we are with those we loved who shed their cocoons earlier, and we are surrounded with more LOVE than you can imagine!"       Ann Marie is survived by her husband, Richard; daughters, Christine Warner of Traverse City and Cindy Warner of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a grandson, Aaron Warner of Traverse City; her mother, Phyllis Zaccaro of Redondo Beach, Calif.; a sister, Geraldine (Robert) Doyle of West Covina, Calif.; a brother, George Zaccaro Jr. of West Covina, Calif.
      A memorial service will be held in Traverse City in the summer.
      Arrangements are by the Northwood Chapel, Dykstra Funeral Home, 295 Douglas Ave., Holland, Mich.
     
ELK RAPIDS - Mary Lou Lark, 74, of Elk Rapids, died Friday at home.
      She was born on March 25, 1926 in Warsau, Ind., the daughter of William and Marcella "Sally" (Clow) Butler. On September 3, 1949, she married Robert Lark at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Elk Rapids.
      Mary Lou was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed gardening.
      She is survived by four daughters, Pamela (Doug) Scherrer of Elk Rapids, Colleen (Aarn) Rosen of Howell, Susan (Terry) Wade of Colorado and Mary Adelaide (Patrick) Gallagher of Kingsley; three sons, Robert (Mary Beth) Lark of Royal Oak, David (Linda) Lark of Kingsley and Brian (Carla) Lark of Elk Rapids; one brother, William (Joyce) Butler of Shepherd; and one sister, Rosanne (Keith) Hubbell of Elk Rapids; 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Christopher Robert Kunze-Wade.
      Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids.
      Rite of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Elk Rapids. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids, in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
TRAVERSE CITY and GLEN ARBOR - Virginia Belle Smith Chadwick Patterson, 82, of Traverse City and Glen Arbor, died Saturday at home.
      Virginia was the daughter of Lester Anthony and Alice Evelyn (Ogden) Smith, born on April 2, 1918 in Detroit. She married Robert W. Chadwick on September 30, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1976. Virginia later married Jack L. Patterson on May 29, 1981, and he preceded her in death in August 1995.
      Virginia attended First Congregational Church and was a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. She graduated in 1939 from the University of Michigan and was proud to be an Aluminus Emeritus. She loved bridge, music and her family. Virginia particularly took pleasure in her family, looking ever forward to summers all together on Sleeping Bear Bay. The family will always remember her fondly for her beauty, grace, discipline, courage, strength and love.
      She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara (George) Chadwick Kausler of Traverse City, Shirley (Alan) Chadwick McDaid of Adrian and Susan (Robert) Chadwick Johnson of Huntington, N.Y. Virginia is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Susan (Jeffry), Stacey (Thomas II), Robert (Sharon), Scott (Melinda), Kevin (Margaret), Stephanie, Chadwick; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Thomas III, Abigail, Amelia and Christopher; brother, Myron (Suzanne) Smith; sister, Marilyn (William) Dewey; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
      Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and brothers, Lester and John R. Smith.
      A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church. A gathering of family and friends will take place in the church Fireside Room at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Robert W. and Virginia S.       HELEN M. CLARK, 64, of Central Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001 at home. She was born April 22, 1936.
      Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Lighthouse Ministries Church in Central Lake. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
CAROL ALICE LACORE, 62, of Traverse City, died the evening of Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001.
      No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
LEONARD JOHN LINDEMAN, 33, of Kaleva, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on May 11, 1967, in Onekama, the son of Earl and Jacqueline (Hannula) Lindeman.
      Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the services at the church. The Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva is in the charge of the arrangements.
     
JERRY L. WILKERSON, 67, of Mancelona, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on April 12, 1933 in Centerville, Texas.
      Visitation will take place today, Sunday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery following the services.
