ALFRED PERRY BAYNTON, 82, of Buckley, died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001 at his home.
      Visitation will take place at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Mary's of Hannah Catholic Church. A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
      RICHARD WILLIAM MAIDENS, 70, of Bear Lake, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001 at his residence. He was born on August 11, 1930 in Detroit.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Lighthouse Baptist Church in Bear Lake. Interment will be in Bear Lake Township Cemetery in the spring.
     
      DONALD JOHN SINGER, 71, of Empire, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at home.
      A full obituary will appear in the Tuesday edition of the Record-Eagle. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Charles Edward Graves
      Died February 24, 2001
      SUTTONS BAY - Charles Edward Graves passed away on Saturday at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
      Charles was born on June 28, 1914 in Chicago to Charles A. and Pauline (Sprude) Graves. He married the former Selma Helen Kruhmin on May 3, 1941.
      Charles farmed for many years in Menominee County. Following farming, he was employed at J. C. Penney in Marinette, Wis., and moved to Suttons Bay in his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, computers and spending time with his family.
      He is survived by his wife, Selma, of Suttons Bay; three sons, Ronald (Deborah) Graves of Merrimack, N.H., Alan (Barbara) Graves of Delaware, Ohio, and Brian (Virginia) Graves of Maplewood, Minn.; five daughters, Charlene (Stephen) Dunlop of Indianapolis, Ind., Marilyn Graves (Alan Orenburg) of Middleton, Wis., Vivian (Richard) Olive of Davisburg, Dianne (Robert) Gregory of Traverse City, and Karen (Robert) Spaulding of Lake Leelanau; 10 grandsons and eight granddaughters.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Martha Sundstrom.
      A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Keswick United Methodist Church in Suttons Bay, with Rev. Wayne Price officiating. Burial will take place in the Stephenson Township Cemetery in the spring.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Keswick United Methodist Church or the Leelanau Memorial Health Center in Northport.
      Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay is in charge of the arrangements.
      Helen Elizabeth (Bennett) Joy
      Died February 23, 2001
      BENZONIA - Helen Elizabeth (Bennett) Joy, 81, of Benzonia, died on Friday at The Maples in Frankfort.
      She was born on Jan. 15, 1920 in Honor, the daughter of Benjamin G. and Florence (Short) Bennett. She married Douglas E. Joy, Sr. on Dec. 24, 1941, in Benzonia.
      Helen was a homemaker. She was a lifelong resident of Benzie County. She was a dedicated life member of The Eastern Star. She was also a member of The White Shrine and an active member of The Michiganders Club. She was a member of The First Congregational Church of Frankfort, where she sang in the choir and served in several other capacities within the church. For many years she was a devoted Den Mother to Den #41 of The Boy Scouts of America.
      She is survived by her beloved husband, Douglas of Benzonia; three sons, Douglas (Linda) Joy, Jr. of Benzonia, Robert (Kristine) Joy of Prescott, Ariz. and Steven James (Melanie) Joy of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Robert (Sally) Bennett of Beulah; and a sister, Florence Jeluso of Grand Rapids. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Helen was also a surrogate grandmother and caregiver to many children over the years. Helen will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
      She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; a sister; and a granddaughter.
      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dinah Haag officiating. Burial will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
      Memorials may be directed to the charity of one's own choice.
