Obituaries

MUSKEGON - Kay J. Gauld, 68, a resident of Muskegon for the past 55 years, died on Thursday.
      She was born on February 28, 1932, in Saginaw. On December 10, 1956, she married Lyman H. Gauld in Muskegon, who preceded her in death on July 30, 1978.
      Mrs. Gauld was a custodian for 15 years with the Mona Shores School District in Muskegon, retiring in 1995. She loved her family. Her dog, Muffy, was her best friend for 15 years.
      Mrs. Gauld is survived by her four children, Vince (Chari) Carnes of Muskegon, Daniel (Amy) Carnes of Muskegon, Eljean "Jean" (Larry) Belmont of Battle Creek and Jessie (Glenn) Niesen of Muskegon; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
      Visitation will take place today, Jan. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sytsema Funeral Home, 737 Apple Ave., Muskegon.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clarke Cemetery in Fife Lake.
      Memorials may be made to Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana.
      Arrangements have been made by the Sytsema Funeral Home in Muskegon.
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Raymond G. Martin, 63, died Dec. 28, 2000, at home in Traverse City.
      Born in Central Falls, R.I., he was the son of the late Joseph N. and Auriza (Lariviere) Martin.
      He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in Japan. He was an avid reader.
      Raymond is survived by two brothers, Joseph Martin of Lovell, Maine, and Normand Martin of Central Falls; two sisters, Rita Hacker of Boca Raton, Fla., and Constance Rutt of Jackson; and a special friend, Margie Fortney.
      He was the brother of the late Jean and Alfred Martin and Therese Lamarine.
      Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
KALKASKA - Alma Leola Meier, 90, of Kalkaska, died on Thursday at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
      Born on August 13, 1910, in Anna, Ohio, she was the daughter of William O. and Bessie (Anderson) Barker. On June 27, 1931, in Anna, Ohio, she married Delmar Roy Meier, who preceded her in death on November 16, 1969.
      She had been a resident of Botkins, Ohio, until moving to the Kalkaska area in 1946. Known as "Potsy" to her friends, she had worked at the Kal-Ho Bar for many years, until her retirement in 1993. She was a former member of the Anna (Ohio) Methodist Church, and enjoyed cooking and baking.
      She is survived by her daughter, Jacqueline (Patrick) McReavy of South Boardman; a granddaughter, Kelly of Traverse City; a grandson, Scott (Rosemary) McReavy, and a great-granddaughter, Hannah, all of Durango, Colo.
      She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Billy; and a brother, Roland.
      Friends may call at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska today, Jan. 14, from 7 to 9 p.m.
      Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with Odell Carlisle officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
      Memorial gifts may be directed to the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Edythe Jankowiak Neuendorf, 68, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., and formerly of Midland and Traverse City, died on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000.
      Mrs. Neuendorf was born on March 11, 1932 in Bay City. She worked as a secretary before receiving her associate's degree in nursing from Delta College in 1973.
      She met her husband, Walter Robert "Bob" Neuendorf in Midland, where they both worked for the Dow Chemical Company. They were married in 1956 and spent the next 30 years in Midland. They moved to Traverse City in 1988 and then to Paso Robles, Calif. in 1993.
      Mrs. Neuendorf enjoyed creating beautiful needlework, playing bridge, solving crossword puzzles and was an excellent pianist. She was a supportive wife, mother and grandmother.
      She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Lesley and Christian Wagner of Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Luke Faber of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; grandchildren, Audrey, Abigail and Luke Faber; and a sister and brother-in-law, Romaine and Raymond Ruszala of Midland.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; and her brother, Edward of Flint.
      Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001 at Reis Chapel in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Services were held at 2 p.m. with Rev. Charles Schliebe of Trinity Lutheran Church in Paso Robles as officiate.
      Contributions in Mrs. Neuendorf's name may be made to the American Cancer Society.
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Joan W. Nunnold, 71, of Ft. Myers, Fla. and formerly of Traverse City, died on Thursday.
      She is survived by her husband, William F. Nunnold; daughters Patricia Linville, Theresa (Ronald) Osborne, Julia (Gary) Perelli; sons Martin (Suzanne) Nunnold and Dennis (Barbara) Nunnold; and 11 grandchildren.
      The family will receive friends at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home in Royal Oak today and Monday from 2 to 8 p.m. Services will be held on Monday at 7 p.m.
      Visitation will take place at St. Petula Church, 134 Airport Road, Waterford, on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11 a.m.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Eileen Gail Tedder, 61, of Traverse City, died on Friday in Grand Rapids.
      Gail was born on October 12, 1939, in Ferndale, the daughter of Dennis and Eva (Irwin) Haver. She married Herbert Henry Tedder in 1974, in Traverse City. Gail and Henry had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary by renewing their wedding vows aboard the Delta Queen steam boat, the same boat where they had originally celebrated their first anniversary. Aboard the boat, Gail and Henry were able to travel the entire length of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers.
      Gail was awarded a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in piano from the University of Michigan. Before private practice, she taught piano at Northeast Missouri State University and Interlochen Arts Academy. Gail spent three summers studying under French piano teacher Madame Nadia Boulanger at Fountainebleu, Paris. Later in her music career, she taught her most difficult student, her husband, The Hammered Dulcimer. Gail enjoyed Chinese cooking, photography and writing poems. She was also a very committed Christian who enjoyed studying her Bible.
      Gail is survived by her husband, Herbert Henry Tedder. She was preceded in death by her parents.

      CHIEFLAND, Fla. - Kathryn J. Tilley, 85, of Chiefland, Fla., and formerly of Traverse City, died on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Gainesville, Fla.
      Born on Jan. 27, 1915, in Northport, she was the daughter of Hans and Belle (Gagnon) Anderson. Along with her husband, Charles, she was the original owner of Tilley's Party Store in Traverse City.
      She is survived by her husband, Charles of Chiefland; a very special nephew, Don (Judy) Arnold of Traverse City; a sister, Leona Francisco of Northport; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Ernest Anderson.
      Funeral arrangements were handled by Knauff Funeral Home in Chiefland.
     
     
TRAVERSE CITY - Russell D. "Tracy" Tracy, 65, of Traverse City, died on Friday, January 12, 2001, at University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor.
      Born on April 13, 1935, in Ithaca, Mich., he was the son of Franklin I. and Helen D. (Monroe) Tracy. On June 26, 1955, in Alma, he married the former Janice M. Reeves, who survives.
      In the newspaper business for 44 years, he retired from the Traverse City Record-Eagle in July 1997 after 34 years of employment as a graphic designer. He also was a real estate broker for more than 30 years and was the former co-owner of Traverse City Realty.
      He was a member of The Presbyterian Church. He also was the past charter president of the Ithaca Jaycees. An avid bow hunter, Russ enjoyed sports of all kinds.
      Surviving besides his wife, Janice, are two daughters, Teresa J. (Steven M.) Iacovoni of Traverse City, and Darla A. (Edward J.) Corbe of Macomb Township; three grandchildren, Danté Steven Iacovoni of Traverse City, Allison Nicole Corbe and Anna Elizabeth Corbe of Macomb Township; one brother, William F. (Carol Williams) Tracy of Coldwater; two sisters, Frances J. (Marvin) Stoneman of Ashley, and Peggy J. (Stanley) Attenberger of Oakridge, Tenn.; and many nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald R. Tracy; and one sister Laura Lou Tracy, who died in infancy.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at The Presbyterian Church, where friends may begin calling at 10 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Homer Nye will officiate. Cremation will follow the services. Inurnment with graveside services will take place in the spring at Ithaca Cemetery in Ithaca.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Michigan Heart Association or the Presbyterian Church.
     
      NORA M. ECKELS, 84, of Arcadia, died on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at West Shore Hospital in Manistee. She was born on April 16, 1916, in Bear Lake Township.
      Visitation will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at Edwards Funeral Home in Bear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at Pleasanton Township Cemetery.
     
BETTY MCTEER, 79, of Acme, died on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at home.
      Funeral arrangements are pending from the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A full obituary will appear in the Monday edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
FRANCES E. WEBER, 81, of Karlin, died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, in Traverse City.
