Obituaries

TRAVERSE CITY - Marion E. Brief, 81, of Traverse City, died Thursday at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born July 21, 1919, in Traverse City, she was the daughter of Frank and Grace (Cobb) Nemrava. On Sept. 18, 1946, in Traverse City, she married Leonard T. Brief, who preceded her in death May 15, 1969.
      A lifelong resident of Traverse City, Marion was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was devoted to her family, friends and pets. She had attended the University of Michigan and was employed by the State of Michigan as a social worker, retiring in 1983 after 16 1/2 years. Marion was an avid tennis player and fan; she enjoyed Big Band music and was a pilot. She was also a member of the local chapter of AARP.
      She is survived by her sons, William D. (Pennee) Brief of Traverse City and Jon L. (Laurie) Brief of West Bloomfield; and five grandchildren Kylie, Catie, Ashley, Nick and Kimberly.
      Along with her husband, Leonard, Marion was preceded in death by her parents.
      Visitation will take place from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday with a Rosary at 5:30 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Fr. James Hayden serving as celebrant. Cremation will take place following Mass. Entombment will be held in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      In remembrance, memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
      CEDAR - Alma W. Meteer, 80, of Cedar, a resident of the area since 1939, moving from Ohio, died Thursday evening at Munson Medical Center.
      Born Sept. 9, 1920 in Bellefontaine, Ohio, she was the daughter of David and Virginia (Snyder) Whitehill. On April 27, 1940 in Traverse City, she married Ford Meteer, who survives.
      A homemaker, Alma enjoyed the outdoors and caring for her flower and vegetable gardens.
      Along with her husband, she is survived by her sons, Neil A. Meteer of Lake Ann and Scott (Kim) Meteer of Cedar; sister Susanna (Ray) Satorius of Williamsport, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      Alma was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Anita Meteer, sister Mary Coil, brother Charles Whitehill and step-sister Marjorie Brill.
      Cremation has taken place, and no services are planned at this time. Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery in Long Lake Township.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of choice.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      CLYDE WILLIAM "BILL" PATTERSON, 80, of Beulah, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2001, in Leesburg, Fla.
      A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2001, at 2 p.m. at The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.

      ELIZABETH E. GUSTAFSON, 87, of Traverse City died Friday afternoon, July 13, 2001, at Cherry Hill Haven.
      Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      JOHN RAFFAELLI, 63, of Traverse City died Saturday morning, July 14, 2001, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
      Arrangements are pending at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.

      LARRY KINNEY, 42, of Traverse City died Saturday, July 14, 2001, in West Virginia.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      DANIEL PAUL HIILIARD, 41, of Kaleva died Saturday, July 14, 2001, in Onekama Township, due to an automobile accident. He was born on May 29, 1960, in Muskegon.
      Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Terwilliger Funeral Home in Kaleva. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Kaleva. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Township Cemetery.
