Surber, 72, of Traverse City, died Friday at Munson Medical Center.He was born Oct. 21, 1928, in Anderson, Ind., the son of Earl and Dorothy Rinearson Surber. On Sept. 16, 1950, he married the former Elizabeth Ann Shrider in Payne, Ohio. Donald had been a sales manager for NCR prior to his retirement and moved from Newburgh, Ind., to Traverse City in 1987. He and his wife would also winter in Dunedin, Fla. Donald was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, the Elks, Rotary, the Masonic Lodge and the Good Sam Club. He especially enjoyed playing golf and woodworking. Donald is survived by his wife, Beth; a son, Jim and his wife Leah of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Jill Blackwell of Lakewood, Colo. and his beloved grandchildren, Tricia and Tori Surber and Aaron, Zach and Dawn Blackwell. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jean Surber on April 18, 2001, by his parents and by a brother, Fred. Memorial services for Donald will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with The Rev. Dr. David Gabel officiating. Inurnment will take place in the family plot at Lehman Cemetery in Payne, Ohio. Friends may call at the church beginning at noon on Tuesday and until the time of services. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or to The American Cancer Society. The family is being served by The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. TRAVERSE CITY - Genevive P. Wood, 76, died Thursday at Bortz Health Care of Traverse City. Genevive was born Sept. 21, 1924, in Charleroi, Pa., the daughter of Michael and Caroline (Kurtz) Buraczewski. She married Harold Wood on Sept. 6, 1947, at St. Lukes in Detroit. Genevive was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Variety Club. She enjoyed all crafts, quilting, needle work and decorating cakes. Genevive loved to spend time with her six grandchildren. She is survived by her beloved husband, Harold; daughter, Marsha Jeanne Wood of Salem, Ore.; son, Mark (Mary) Wood of Grand Rapids; sister, Adeline (Henry) Lucas of Lake Leelanau; and six grandchildren. Genevive was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Edward Buraczewski. Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. Jerry Micketti will be serving as celebrant. Visitation will take place on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Friends may also call on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church until the time of service. Burial will take place in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes Association. TRAVERSE CITY - Eleanor M. Paulos, 79, of Traverse City and Tequesta, Fla., died peacefully at home on Friday with her loving husband at her side. Born Feb. 18, 1922, in East Lansing, she was the daughter of Ezra and Marie (Stock) Parish. Eleanor attended Michigan State College and was a graduate of St. Lawrence Mercy School of Nursing and had worked for the Red Cross as a registered nurse. She met her husband at a freshman mixer while attending Michigan State and during World War II, on Dec. 18, 1943, she married Frank G. Paulos, who survives. Together they lived in northern Michigan and the Traverse City area for 50 years. Eleanor had many interests and hobbies. She was a member of the Traverse City Golf and Country Club for 42 years; she won the 18-hole club championship there 10 times along with being runner-up champion many times. Eleanor's highlight in golf came the year she won what she called the "triple crown." That year she won the club championship at Traverse City Golf and Country Club, and the club championship at her winter club in Tequesta, Fla. She then traveled to Glenn Abby, Scotland, where she won the Scottish Women's National Crown. Besides her love of golf and competition, Eleanor took up tennis in her 50s. She enjoyed playing cards with her lady friends, as well as needlepoint, knitting, her roses, birds, and her pets at home. As her health declined, Eleanor especially enjoyed her views of East Bay from her chair. During their 60 years together, Eleanor and Frank traveled to Europe, Scotland, Alaska, Hawaii, and the United States; and would go out dancing often, enjoying swing music. For many years, Eleanor loved going to the Michigan State University football games with her family and friends, where she and her husband had the same seats for fifty years. A fiercely loyal woman, she particularly enjoyed attending her grandchildren's activities of hockey, football, softball and baseball. Along with her husband of 58 years, Frank, Eleanor is survived by her son, James F. Paulos of Traverse City; daughter, Catherine (Bruce) Buchan of Cedar; three grandchildren, Zack, Halley and Weston of Cedar; sister-in-law, Shirley Parish of Haslett; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Leo and Wayne Parish; and nephew, Michael Parish. Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mapleton, with the Rev. Fr. Patrick Barrett serving as celebrant. Burial will immediately follow the mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
