June 2, 2001ObituariesLAKE LEELANAU - Caroline Emma Fiedler, 90, of Lake Leelanau, died on Thursday at Leelanau Memorial Health Center.She was born on July 16, 1910, in Detroit, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Sheffler) Sonntag. On Oct. 7, 1928, in Detroit, she married Elmer George Fiedler, who preceded her in death in 1988. Caroline was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Redford Township and Altar Society, and Treasurer of the Redford Township Women's Club for 35 years. She was an avid reader and loved to do crafts. She was also a member of Sons of Norway Christian Radich Lodge of Suttons Bay, Suttons Bay Friendship Center and Suttons Bay Congregational Church. She is survived by her daughter, Lois (Thomas) Stretlien of Lake Leelanau; three grandsons, Thomas (Ellen) Stretlien, Mark Stretlien and Michael Stretlien; two sisters, Eleanor McMahon and Betty (George) Loeper; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edward, Frederick and Melvin; one sister, Helen; and four siblings in infancy. Friends may call on Sunday at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home in Clawson from 2 to 6 p.m. Visitation will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Redford Township. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Victor Halboth officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia. Memorials may be directed to the Suttons Bay Congregational Church. Local arrangements have been handled by the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. ELK RAPIDS - Frederic P. Procissi, 81, of Elk Rapids City since 1975, moving from Traverse City, died Friday at home. He was born on June 27, 1919, in Hubbel, the son of Pascal and Katherine (Miller) Procissi. In 1942 in Detroit, he married the former Margaret Hummel. Frederic served in the United States Army for 23 years, retiring in 1964 as a Major. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and received the silver star, bronze star, and purple heart. He was a member of the Alden Woodworking Club; very active in the Us Too Cancer Support Group. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Procissi of Elk Rapids; three sons, Mark (Mary) Procissi of Bethleham, Conn., Paul Procissi of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Stephen Procissi of Boston, Mass.; one sister, Alice (Gordon) Farrish of Detroit; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Joseph. No services are planned at this time. Burial will be in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. KEWADIN - Virginia "Ginny" M. Udell, 78, of Kewadin since 1960, formerly of Illinois, died on Wednesday at Munson Medical Center She was born June 12, 1922, in Hunter, Mo., the daughter of William and Eva (Bingham) Whitaker. On Aug. 1960, in Elk Rapids, she married Amos Udell, who preceded her in death in 1985. Virginia was employed by Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital in the housekeeping department. She retired in 1982 after 10 years of employment. She was an honorary life member of the Amvets Auxiliary Post #114 of Elk Rapids and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Muhonen of Kewadin; a son, William (Suzanne) Hutchcraft of Kewadin; five sisters, Jeanette (Cecil) Martin of Washington, Rosemary Tuggle of California, Mabel Speer of Arkansas, Minnie (James) Burke of Missouri, and Mildred Webb of Elk Rapids; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one brother, Burl Whitaker; and an infant sister, Gladys. Visitation will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Gary Gladfelter officiating. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elk Rapids Amvets Post #114 Building Fund. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. SHANE M. PIEHL, 21, of Grayling, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, in Grayling. He was born on March 12, 1980, in Gaylord. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling. KAREN K. BUXTON, 57, of South Boardman, died on Thursday, May 31, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born on Nov. 28, 1943, in Detroit. Visitation was held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Boardman Township Cemetery. |
