June 24, 2001ObituariesDORIS E. POPP, 74, of Frankfort, died Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.Services will be held on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Benzonia. The family is being served by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes. WALTER A. FITTON, 74, of Traverse City died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Munson Medical Center. Arrangements are pending at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A full obituary will appear in the next issue of the Record-Eagle. FIFE LAKE - Mary Campbell, 49, of Fife Lake, died on Friday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. A Fife Lake resident for 30 years, she was born on Nov. 22, 1951, in Muskegon, the daughter of Charles and Mildred (LaFlame) Herrera. On Aug. 28, 1970, in Walker, she married Rick Campbell. Mary was retired salesperson. She loved nature, the outdoors and crafts. She is survived by her husband, Rick of Fife Lake; one son, Rick Campbell II of Fife Lake; one brother, Lysle (Carma Jean) Johnson of Cedar Springs; Six sisters, Melvina Swieringa of Fruitport, Leta (David) Hoaglund of Tustin, Connie (Frank) Whitman of St. Helen, Dora (Raymond) Bevins of Eptwarth, Ga., Barbara (Roger) Davis of Grand Rapids and Rosie (Ken) Helmer of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Margaret Mulder, who passed away June 4, 2001. Visitation will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Fife Lake Cemetery. SAN DIEGO - Kimberly Lynn (Clark) Fasel, 20, formerly of Traverse City, died Tuesday as a result of an automobile accident in San Diego. Kimberly was born Sept. 8, 1980, in Manistee, the daughter of Albert and Joyce (Meehan) Clark. She moved to Traverse City in 1983. She attended Trinity Lutheran School and Central High School, graduating with honors. While in school, she was active in sports, playing soccer, volleyball, basketball and softball. She was a member of the National Honor Society, a volunteer at Father Fred's, and a counselor at local basketball camps. Kim attended Eastern Michigan University, then transferred to Mesa College in San Diego, majoring in Bio-Chemistry. She married Navy Seaman Aaron Fasel of Traverse City in San Diego on Dec. 21, 2000. Kim was a vibrant, caring, loving person who is deeply missed by her husband, Aaron; parents, Joyce and Albert; sister, Debra (Robert) Kirsch; mother-in-law, Lori Buchan; Father-in-law, Fred Fasel; brother-in-law, Justin Fasel; and nieces, Courtney and Brittani; grandparents, Albert and Marie Clark of Manistee; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be held 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Dean Bailey will be officiating. Burial will take place at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be directed to Aaron Fasel. TRAVERSE CITY - Bernice Elizabeth Johnson, 88, formerly of Kalamazoo, died on Friday at Munson Medical Center. Bernice was born April 30, 1913, in Wild Rose, Wis., the youngest child of Martin and Antonia (Stahoviak) Korleski. She married Everett Moyer, who preceded her in death in 1945. Bernice later married Joseph R. Johnson on Oct. 25, 1947. Joseph preceded her in death Aug. 23, 1982. Bernice was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kalamazoo for over forty years, where she was active in the St. Mary's Ladies Guild, and St. Francis Catholic Church for the past six years after she moved to the Traverse City area. Bernice enjoyed her charitable works and especially her work through the St. Angness Foundling Home. She loved camping, traveling, playing cards and enjoying her time with her family. She is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (John) Cessna of Huntington, Conn. and Mary (Edward) Arbut of Traverse City; four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Erik and Emily Arbut and Christopher Cessna; her sister-in-law, Lucille Gabos of Kalamazoo; and several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husbands and nine brothers and sisters. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church. The Rev. Fr. William Lipscomb will officiate. After cremation, burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery in Heffron. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Women's Resource Center in Traverse City. |
