Obituaries

KEWADIN - Margaret Harriet Goodman, 73, a lifelong resident of Kewadin, died on Wednesday at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      She was born on June 24, 1927 in North Milton Township, the daughter of Ervin and Gladys (Hull) Powell. She married Floyd Quentin Goodman on August 7, 1946 in Alden.
      She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
      She is survived by four daughters, Penny (David) Waddington of Highland, Barb Mihelsic, Debbie (Charlie) Shann, both of Kewadin and Lisa (Charlie) Yarmuth of Williamsburg; two sons, William Goodman of Kewadin and David Goodman of Kinross; and a brother, Richard (Kay) Powell of Kewadin. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1988; infant son, Charles; grandson, Nicholas Lyon; three brothers and two sisters.
      Visitation was held on Thursday, March 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Terry Nelson and Rev. Arthur Covell officiating. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Traverse City Seventh Day Adventist Building Fund or a charity of one's choice.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Keith Edward Rose, 76, of Traverse City, formerly of Bay City, died on Thursday due to a lingering illness.
      He was born on June 3, 1924 in Bay City, the son of Harry and Agnes (Yahn) Rose. He married the former Joyce Condon on Sept. 10, 1949 in Bay City.
      In loving memory of our father, grandfather, and husband. He will be missed by all. He enjoyed his family and friends. He was very kindhearted to others. He loved camping, horseshoes, bowling, gardening, and being around family. He took a special interest in his grandchildren and his handicapped son.
      He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Traverse City; seven children, Linda (Glenn) Watkins of Gaylord, Chris (Rose) Rose of Bay City, Sherry (Ron) Scheffer of Grawn, Dan (Marsha) Rose of Monument, Colo., Debbie (Mike) Blonshine, Mark (Michelle) Rose and Karen (Brian) Sumner, all of Traverse City; three brothers, Jerome (Barb) Rose of Bay City, Harry Rose of Florida and Don (Charlotte) Rose of Bay City. He is also survived by 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Kevin Patrick Rose.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes and Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the St. Patrick Catholic Church. A Wake Service will be held on Sunday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. Gerald Micketti officiating. Interment will be in the Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

      INDIANAPOLIS - Thomas Fothergill Stoll, 61, of Indianapolis and formerly of Traverse City, died on Thursday.
      He was born May 29, 1939, in South Bend, Ind., to Marjorie F. and George E. Stoll. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1961 and from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 1964. He was ordained to the Diaconate in May, 1964 at St. James Episcopal Cathedral in South Bend and to the Priesthood on Dec. 1, 1964 at St. Mary's Episcopal Mission in Delphi, Ind.
      He was vicar of St. Mary's in Delphi, St. Alban's in Monticello and St. Peter's in Rennselear from 1964-1966. He served as Curate at Christ Church in Gary from 1966-1968. He was Rector of Nativity Episcopal Church in Birmingham from 1968-1974, Rector of Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City from 1974-1985 and Rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis from 1985-1994. At the time of his death, Tom was serving as a chaplain at St. Vincent's Hospital.
      He was an affiliate priest at All Saint's Episcopal Church in Indianapolis and he was a Board Certified Chaplain.
      He was a six-year member of New Warriors Indiana and Head Elder of the organization for two years.
      Tom's true loves were his convictions as a servant of his community and God, canoeing, and writing and reading poetry.
      He was honored as N.A.S.W. Citizen of the Year, Michigan Chapter (1982), co-founder of Grand Traverse Area Hospice/Michigan, a board member of Seabury-Western Theological Seminary. Throughout his ministry, he held a number of positions within the dioceses that he served as well as the national Episcopal Church.
      He is survived by his three children, Melissa E. Cole, Alison H. Sterling, and Peter C. Stoll; and his siblings, Sheila Stoll and Eric E. Stoll. Tom was married to Sterling H. Cole for 36 years (1961-1997).
      Viewing will start at 5 p.m. Friday and continue until dawn on Saturday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 16th and Central. There will be a short Vigil Service at 8 p.m. on Friday evening. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at St. Luke's Methodist Church, West 86th Street, Indianapolis at 7 p.m.
      Memorials may be directed to The Leelanau Conservancy, Leland, Michigan or St. Vincent Hospital Hospice, Indianapolis.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Leppert and Hensley Mortuary.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Elaine Cousineau, 68, of Traverse City, died on Monday at her residence.
      She was born on Feb. 6, 1933, in Lilly Township, Newaygo County, the daughter of William and Marjorie (Crandall) Cousineau and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1951. Elaine was employed at a local radio station for a short time until she moved to Traverse City, where she lived since. For several years, she was employed as a secretary in the medical profession.
      A long-time member of Feast of Victory Lutheran Church in Traverse City, she served in the Stephens Ministry.
      She is survived by her two brothers, William (Dorethea) Cousineau of Muskegon and Stanley (Patricia) Cousineau of Baldwin; several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
      Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., March 8, at the Rogers-Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids with Pastor Jim Helman officiating.
      A memorial service celebrating Elaine's life and faith will be held at the Feast of Victory Lutheran Church in Acme on Monday evening, March 12 at 7 p.m.
      Burial will be in the Whipple Cemetery in Newaygo County.
      Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association of Michigan may be left at the funeral home.
     
ARTHUR E. GROCKAU, 82, of Kalkaska, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 22, 1918, in Detroit.
      Visitation will be held today from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Coldsprings Township Cemetery in Kalkaska. Arrangements were handled by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska.
     
      STELLA C. LIJEWSKI, 94, of Manistee, died on Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility. She was born on June 1, 1906, in Poland.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. A Rosary will take place on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. followed by an 8 p.m. Evening Prayer service at the funeral home. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Burial will take place on Monday in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. Arrangements were handled by the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee.
     
      ROSE BREZINA, 73, of Traverse City, passed away on Wednesday, March 7 2001, at home.
      No services are planned at this time. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      EILEEN GAIL TEDDER, 61, of Traverse City, died on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Grand Rapids.
      A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2001, at 10 a.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. There will be a sign up sheet available for those who wish to have a tape of Gail's piano music. Memorial contributions may be directed to Freedom Ministries of America.
