Obituaries

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Georgia Synnestvedt, 88, passed away at her home in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2001.
      Georgia was born in Detroit on Feb. 22, 1913, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Kelenski) Fifarek. She was raised in Traverse City and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1929, at the age of 16, and was the class valedictorian. She later graduated from St. Teresa's College in Winoma, Minn. Georgia married Dr. Philip Lynch of Elk Rapids on June 1, 1935. They later moved to Manistee. Dr. Lynch died suddenly in 1950.
      Georgia married Norman Synnestvedt, a Manistee business man, on July 1, 1961.
      Georgia was the first remedial reading and special education teacher in Manistee. She taught for 17 years. After retirement she and her husband, Norman, traveled for several years with their AirStream trailer to winter in Florida. They moved to Jupiter, Fla., in 1978. Georgia was an avid golfer and actively played the game in both Michigan and Florida.
      Georgia is survived by her sons, Michael Lynch of Jupiter, Fla., and Dennis (Bonnie) Lynch of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Philip Lynch of New York City and Dana (Michael) Allen of Jacksonville, Fla.; her brother, Robert (Dorothy) Fifarek of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews.
      Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Dr. Philip Lynch, and Norman Synnestvedt on Aug. 11, 2000; her sisters, Joan Fifarek and Alice Wright; and an infant brother, Edward.
     
      JOHN H. COMAI, 76, of Farmington Hills, and formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Monday, Oct. 29, 2001.
      Cremation has taken place. A full obituary will appear at a later date in the Record-Eagle.
     
      ALICE M. FLEES, 89, of Maple City, passed away on Oct. 30, 2001.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Rita's-St. Joseph Catholic Church in Maple City. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the Rosary being recited at 3:30 p.m.
     
      WILMA MARIE WASSBERG, 88, of Traverse City, died Monday afternoon, Oct. 29, 2001, at Tendercare of Traverse City.
      Arrangements are pending with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      HELEN T. WITKOWSKI, 79, of Traverse City, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Arrangements are pending with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      BERNADINE H. ZAWACKI, 87, of Manistee, passed away at her home on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, at Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. An evening prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. at the funeral home on Friday.
      Mass from The Order of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Mary's of Mt. Carmel Shrine Church in Manistee. Burial will follow the services Saturday at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
