November 2, 2001ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Wilma Marie Wassberg, 88, of Traverse City, died Monday afternoon at Tendercare of Traverse City.Born May 10, 1913, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Norman Henry and Marie Louise (Bruder) Zimmerman Sr. Wilma is survived by her three daughters, Carol M. (Leo C.) Sweetman of Thompsonville, Marilynn J. (Richard) Houghton of Ocala, Fla., Judith Ann (John P.) Garcia of Interlochen; brother, Norman H. Zimmerman Jr. of Livonia; 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Wassberg, in 1983, and her parents. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed to Redeemer Lutheran Church of Interlochen. Arrangements were made by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. THELMA W. BLACK, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2001. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the First Congregational Church. A full obituary will appear in the next edition of the Record-Eagle. GAJESKI, 89, of Free Soil, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Memorial Medical Center of West Michigan, in Ludington. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4, at St. John Cantius Catholic Church in Free Soil. Mass from The Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, also at the church. Interment will follow the funeral Mass in the St. John Cantius Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Herbert Funeral Home, P.C. BETTY LOUISE GIBSON, 74 of South Boardman, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. JOYCE LUCILLE KARSTEN, 77, of Roscommon, and formerly of Prudenville, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001. No services are planned. Arrangements are being handled by the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling. KENNETH RICHARD LASH SR., 70, of Mancelona, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2001. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Mancelona Baptist Church. Wolfe Funeral Home of Kalkaska is in charge of the arrangements. JAMES A. O'BRIEN, 78, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2001, at Spectrum Health, Butterworth Campus, in Grand Rapids. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
