BEULAH - Gordon D. Edinger Sr., 58, of Beulah, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Gordon was born in Detroit on Oct. 13, 1943, the son of Paul E. and Esther (Link) Edinger Sr.
      Gordon was a lifelong resident of the area and was employed as a mason with Gene Kerby Construction. On June 20, 2001, Gordon married Marcia Lawson.
      Gordon is survived by his wife, Marcia of Beulah; his mother, Esther of Honor; his children, son, Jamie and daughter, Sierra; two brothers, Gary of Beulah, and Walter (Jane) of Honor, two sisters, Paulette (Andrew) Abshire of Beulah, and Georgie (Daryl) Ulberg of Thompsonville; two half brothers, Thomas (Jan) of White Lake, and Paul (Laura) Jr. of Lakeland, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
      Gordon was preceded in death by his father; his son, Gordon Jr.; and two brothers, Otto and Donald.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, from the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Friends may call from noon until the time of services on Monday.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Helen T. Witkowski, 79, of Traverse City, died Wednesday at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Born April 14, 1922 in Detroit, she was the daughter of Paul and Katherine (Kowalik) Hodorek. On Dec. 31, 1944 in Detroit, she married George Witkowski, who survives.
      Helen was formerly of Detroit and a resident of the Traverse City area since 1989. She was a graduate of Cass High School in Detroit and later attended Detroit Business College. Helen had been employed as paymaster for Commercial Steel Treating in Detroit, and also in the payroll department of Whittman & Barnes Co. in Plymouth. She was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City. Helen enjoyed doing needlework.
      Along with her husband George, she is also survived by her son, George Witkowski II of Traverse City; daughter-in-law, Roxanne Vanderveer of Traverse City; sisters, Sophie (Napoleon) Ayotte of Plymouth, Eleanor Hancock of Ann Arbor, Genevieve Bigos of Romulus, Dorothy (Frank) Long of Ocoee, Fla.; brother, Steven (Irene) Hodorek of Livonia; sister-in-law, Betty Hodorek of St. Clair Shores; and many nieces and nephews.
      Helen was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Leonard Hodorek.
      Cremation has taken place.
      Friends may call at the time of a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel in Plymouth on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. where a wake will immediately follow.

      HIGGINS LAKE - Joanne J. Murphy, age 71, of Higgins Lake, and formerly of Traverse City, passed away Friday, Nov. 2, 2001.
      Joanne was the daughter of Richard and Marion (Topinka) Round. She married Robert T. Murphy on April 14, 1951.
      She was the dear mother of Leenanne (David) Brian of South Boardman, Linda Murphy of Taylor, and Sandy Bornholdt of Higgins Lake; the loving grandmother of, Chrystal, Brian, Anthony, Antonia, Jason, Danielle, and Katherine; the dear sister of, Bud (Dorothy) Round, and Roger (Dorothy) Round, both of Traverse City.
      Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; and her brother, Dicky Round.
      Private funeral services will be held.
      Arrangements by Walsh Funeral Home, Roscommon.
     
      INTERLOCHEN - D. Elaine Southwick, 51, of Interlochen, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Elaine was born in Williamson, W. Va., on Jan. 18, 1950, the daughter of Paul and Doris Virginia (Johnson) Phillips. Elaine married her longtime companion, Larry Gene Southwick, in Traverse City on June 13, 1996.
      Elaine was employed by the Green Lake Township office for several years and served in many capacities there. Elaine was an avid golfer and bowler.
      Elaine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her survivors, which include her husband, Larry G. Southwick of Interlochen; her mother, Virginia Phillips of Chattaroy, W. Va.; four children, Kimberly Childers of Lake Ann, Tim Southwick of Mesick, Brian (Crystal) Childers of Oklahoma City and Libby Childers of Traverse City; six grandchildren, Amanda, Paul James, Kloi, Dakota, Madison and Isiah; brothers and sisters, Paul, Danny, George, Vicki and Grace; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Elaine will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
      Elaine was preceded in death by her son, Ralph T. "Duck" Childers on Dec. 11, 1991, and her father, Paul Phillips.
      Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the funeral home, with Rev. Daniel Biteman officiating. Interment will be in the Grant Township Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to either the Father Fred Foundation, or to the Traverse City Women's Resource Center.
     
      MARJORIE ANN ANDERSON, 77, of Benzonia, passed away at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001.
      Memorial services are tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah.
      A full obituary will appear later this week in the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
     
      RICHARD L. "DICK" HALL, 70, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at his home.
      Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, where funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6.

      JAMES L. MEREDITH, 82, of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001.
      Visitation will be held on Sunday, Nov. 4, from 5 to 9 p.m. and on Monday from 2 to 9 p.m. at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Woods. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Monday.
      A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Harper Woods. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
     
      ELEANOR L. MICKELSEN, 89, of Manistee, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2001, at the home of her son in Pensacola, Fla.
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Manistee.
      Arrangements are being handled by Johnson Funeral Home, P.C., in Manistee.
     
      BETTY ANN OSBORN, 62, of East Jordan, passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at her home.
      Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 4; and again on Monday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Penzien Funeral Home in East Jordan.
