November 5, 2001ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Richard L. "Dick" Hall, 70, of Traverse City, died Friday evening at home. A lifelong resident of Traverse City, he also lived in Muskegon. He was the founder and co-owner/operator of Lake Ann Hardwoods. Dick served with the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1954, during the Korean War. Stationed at St. Patrick's Air Force Base in Florida, he served with the Pilotless Bomber Squadron. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.Born Nov. 2, 1931, in Traverse City, he was the son of Rayon E. and Emma (Smith) Hall. On Oct. 30, 1970, in Old Mission, he married Verna R. (Chapman) Gabrick, who survives. Also surviving are three children, Donald Hall of Muskegon, Connie (Erv) Heidbrink of Sturgis and Rayon (Vonda) Hall of Hesperia; the mother of his children, Marjorie Perry Corning of Interlochen; four stepchildren, Michael (Janet) Brigham of Traverse City, Mark (Angie) Gabrick of Lake Ann, James (Debi) Gabrick of Petoskey and Dawn (Terry) Kirchner of Omaha, Neb.; three brothers, Robert (Jamie) Hall of Traverse City, Frank (Esther) Hall of Traverse City and William (Joanne) Hall of Muskegon; one sister, Lillian Grove of Flint; 12 grandchildren; a very special nephew, Charles "Chuck" Hall of Traverse City; and many other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Kenneth; granddaughter, Alyssa; and three brothers, Harold, Harry and Charles. Friends may call today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Dick's nephew, the Rev. Jerrold Hall, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the "Make A Wish Foundation", or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. CENTRAL LAKE TOWNSHIP - Robert Spencer Arnold, 78, of Central Lake Township, died on Saturday at his home. He was born March 21, 1923, in Lodi, Calif., the son of Spencer S. and Leota B. (Addington) Arnold. Robert was a lifelong resident of Central Lake Township. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Germany and France. He was employed by the DME Corporation in Charlevoix for many years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Belltower Reformed Church, always looking forward to Church activities. He was also a member of the Torch Post VFW #6985. Robert enjoyed traveling with his family, gardening, reading and had a lifelong love of farming. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid sports fan and especially loved watching his grandsons play ball. On Jan. 22, 1954, in Ellsworth, he married Kaye Cooper, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Kari Lynn Arnold (Steven) Groll of Central Lake; a son, David Robert Arnold of Central Lake; three grandchildren, Taylor Arnold Groll, Trevor Spencer Groll and Eliza Kate Groll, all of Central Lake; and a sister, Jackie (Kenneth) Watson of Central Lake. Preceding him in death where his parents; three brothers, Homer, Melvin and Cecil Arnold; as well as a sister, Virginia Hall. The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Belltower Reformed Church in Ellsworth, with the Rev. Paul Copeland officiating. TRAVERSE CITY - Berniece G. Davis, 74, of Traverse City, died Saturday at home. A Traverse City resident since 1980, moving from Empire, she was born on Nov. 25, 1926, in Traverse City, the daughter of Leonard and Mae (Brooder) McGarry. On May 3, 1947, in Traverse City, she married Clifford Davis. Berniece was employed with Burwood Industries and JC Penney. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City. Berniece enjoyed golfing and bowling. She was a former member of the Eagles Club in Interlochen. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Davis of Traverse City; two daughters, Rita Davis of Traverse City and Debra Ann (Jim) Dice of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; three sons, Steve (Mary) Davis of Suttons Bay, Daniel (Susan) Davis of Empire and Randus Davis of Traverse City; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ida Mae Gauthier and Mildred Davis. Visitation will be held today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City with the Rev. James Hayden officiating. Interment will be in the St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery in Empire in the spring of 2002. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Munson Hospice or the Immaculate Conception Church in Traverse City. TRAVERSE CITY - Julie (Lyon) Huston, 31, of Traverse City, died on Friday at her home. She was born on March 22, 1970, to Jack and Jackie (Cochrane) Lyon. On Sept. 21, 1997, in Leeland, she married Brad Huston. Julie grew up in Manton and attended Manton Schools. She lived in Detroit and Chicago for a short time. She had been a resident of Traverse City for the last 10 years. Julie loved music and reading and her employment was associated with both in retail sales. She was a devoted mother to her infant son, Jack. She is survived by her husband, Brad; son, Jack; one brother, Jason and fiancee Kristy McDowell of Cadillac; father, Jack (Lynn) Lyon of Fife Lake; mother, Jackie (Robb) Letts of Manton; grandparents, Lawrence and Marguerite Cochran of Manton; and nieces, Kristy and Katelan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Manton. Memorial contributions may be made to the Down Syndrome Association of West Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. |
