**FLAG** Lloyd Douglas Thornell
      Died November 2, 2001
      MESICK - Lloyd Douglas Thornell was born on Oct. 21, 1927, to Lloyd L. and Bertha Cecelia (Mathieson) Thornell in Frankfort.
      He married Mary Louise Boerner (Shumway) of Mesick on Oct. 3, 1948, she survives.
      Surviving is one daughter, Linda Lou Thornell, three grandsons, Charles Arthur Farris Jr., Jeremy Scott Farris and James Lloyd Farris, and two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Desire Lyn, all of Traverse City
      One son, Kenneth Thornell and wife, Becky (Polidan), two grandchildren, Jason Thornell and Jessica Thornell, all of Belleville.
      His sister, Alice Cutler of California; brothers, Alfred Thornell of Baldwin, Carl (Skip) Thornell of Ludington and Denny and wife, Sharon of Grandville; and many nieces and nephews.
      Lloyd joined the Army as a paratrooper from 1945 to 1947. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division. He worked for the Mesick Telephone Co., and then worked on the car ferry "Badger" out of Ludington. He next worked for Kelenators in Grand Rapids. Moving from Mesick to Traverse City, he was an attendant nurse at the Traverse City Psychiatric Hospital. After failed attempts in Lansing to keep the facility open, he retired after 30 years in 1984.
      He built a house on the Old Shumway farm and Lloyd and Mary Lou moved back to Mesick in 1988. His wife of 53 years now resides in Traverse City.
      Memorial services will be Friday, Nov. 9, at 2 p.m. at the McElduff Funeral Chapel on Forest Ave. and 8th Street in Frankfort.
      Marjorie Ann Anderson
      Died November 3, 2001
      BENZONIA - Marjorie Ann Anderson, 77, of Benzonia, died on Saturday at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort.
      She was born on Dec. 25, 1923, in Muskegon, the daughter of Frederick Edwin Patrick and Ann Marie (Johnson) McMahon. On June 11, 1955, in Pentwater, she married Robert Earl Anderson.
      Marjorie was a homemaker. She very much enjoyed her home and family.
      She is survived by her daughter, Paula A. Zenker of Benzonia; granddaughter, Susan Zenker of Benzonia; grandson, Daniel Zenker of San Diego; brother, Fred McMahon of Eugene, Ore.; and two great-granddaughters, Ariella and Aimee Zenker of San Diego.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her sister, Katherine; and granddaughter, Amy.
      Memorial services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, with Father Ray Cotter officiating. Burial will be in the Joyfield Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home at the time of the service.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Marjorie Ann Anderson Memorial Fund.
      WILLIAM E. BIRD, 77, of Lewiston, formerly of Willard, Ohio, died on Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at Mercy Manor in Grayling. He was born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Fremont.
      Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel. A Masonic service will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
     
      RUTH M. BORST, 75, died on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at her home in Mancelona.
      The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in Mancelona. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
