November 10, 2001ObituariesTraverse City - Leona M. (Kitchen) Kubis, 83, of Traverse City, died early Friday morning at Birchwood Nursing Center.Leona was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Copemish, the daughter of John H. and Marian Della (Sawmiller) Moon, and had always lived in this area. Leona married Levi S. Kitchen and he preceded her in death in 1955. She later married Frank Kubis who also preceded her in death. Prior to her retirement, Leona had worked for a local canning company and also had been employed in housekeeping at Munson. She loved gardening and canning the fruits and vegetables she raised. Leona is survived by her sons, Richard Kitchen of Williamsburg, and John E. Kitchen of Interlochen; a daughter, Marion Bembeneck of Swanquarter, N.C.; step children, Char Rankin of Colorado, and Joyce Samson of Saginaw; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Edwin Moon of Cedar Springs, Francis Moon of Cadillac, and Jack Moon of Traverse City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley. Visitation will be Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be directed to Munson Hospice. KATHRYN ANN "KATHI" OLENICZAK, 55, of Manistee, and a native of Yuma, passed away on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at her home. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the funeral home. Final interment will be in the Yuma Cemetery. CARLENE H. SCHIMKE, 90, of Muskegon, and formerly of Manistee, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. The funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Manistee. LAKE LEELANAU - Raymond Joseph Richard, 76, of Lake Leelanau, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001. Ray was born in Lake Leelanau on March 20, 1925, the beloved oldest son of Edmond and Clara (Eckerle) Richard. Ray moved to Ann Arbor in 1940 where he later met and married the former Charlotte Lyons in June of 1946. Together, Ray and Charlotte raised three children, Carol, Sally and Edmond Richard. Charlotte preceded him in death in November of 1970. In 1973, Ray married Phyllis DeNoyer of Lake Leelanau. Mr. Richard was a founding forefather of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ann Arbor, a member of Alcoholics Anonymous in Lake Leelanau, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he attained the status of Fourth Degree Knight. He was, for many years, a member of the Painter and Decorators Association. Ray was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau and a financial scholarship contributor to both the church and school of St. Mary's. Ray is survived by his wife of 28 years, Phyllis; his children and step-children, Carol (Nicholas) Chaconas, Sally (John) Nimitz, Edmond Richard, Judy (Pat) Yoder, Jan (James) Reinke and David (Barbara) DeNoyer; his grandson, Paul (Lisa) Tomshany III, and granddaughters, Nichole (Cass Haboian) Chaconas and Alethea Chaconas; and great-grandsons, Tony and Justin. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren, Mary and Ward Yoder, Ann, Sarah and Elizabeth Reinke, and Jackie and Adrienne DeNoyer; his brothers, Louis Richard, Leo Richard and Philip Richard; his sisters, Olivia Grant, Mary Kerr, Caroline Murrel, Dorthy Peer and Esther Hannah; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Charlotte; and one sister, Geneve Poppenger. Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau. There will also be a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 13, at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Traverse City, to Individualized Hospice, 3003 Washtenaw, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, or to the Richard Family Scholarship Fund. Arrangements have been made by the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. DELAVAN, Wis. - Frances E. Adamson, age 87, of Hwy. NN in Geneva Township, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Lakeland Health Care Center in Elkhorn, Wis. Frances was born on Nov. 6, 1914 in Michigan, the daughter of John and Caroline (Burrington) Jones. She married William Adamson on June 15, 1940, in Flint. Frances was both a teacher and a homemaker, who enjoyed playing bridge, dining out, and going boating and fishing. Frances is survived by her daughter, Penny Jeffers of Woodstock, Ill.; her grandson, Jerrold Jeffers, also of Woodstock, Ill.; her sister, Carol (Fred) Middleton of Florida; and her nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bill, who died on Aug. 25, 1996. Services and burial will take place in Oscoda at a later date. Monroe Funeral Home in Delavan, Wis., is assisting the family. |
