Brookhouse, 94, of Beulah, died on Friday at The Maples of Frankfort.Dorothy was born on May 15, 1907, in Northville, Conn., the daughter of William and Lena (Bauman) Leviness. She married William Brookhouse in Detroit in 1929, who preceded her in death on March 4, 1961. Dear mother of two daughters, Dorothy (Howard) Poet-Riggs of Beulah and Phillis Heck of Taylor; and one son, Kenneth Brookhouse of Casper, Wyo. Dorothy is the dear grandmother to 14 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, six step-great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive her. She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles and William; her mother and father; two sisters, Lena and Florence; and one brother, Lester Leviness. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Honor Congregational Church in Honor, with Pastor Thomas Maher officiating. The family will be at the church one hour prior to the service for visitation. Burial will be in Michigan Memorial Park in Flat Rock at a later date. Those wishing to remember Dorothy may consider donations to the Maples Recreation Department. Envelopes will be available at the church. The Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements. ELK RAPIDS - Timothy Knowles Hopkins, 51, of Elk Rapids, died Saturday at Munson Medical Center. Tim was born June 28, 1950, in Ypsilanti, the son of James H. and Harriet Knowles Hopkins and had resided in this area for the last seven years. Tim was a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was employed as the senior photographer at TV 7 & 4. He also was a DJ at WTCM. Tim is survived by his five cousins, Laurence Thomas, Amy Gray, Susan Fox, Jeanette Hopkins and David Thomas, and other extended family; his beloved canine companion, Alex and the many wonderful friends whom he loved and they loved him. Tim was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Martin in 1969. A time of celebrating Tim's life will take place at 1p.m. Monday November 19 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cherryland Humane Society or to the Munson Inpatient Cancer Unit (4W). WILLIAMSBURG - Evelyn Denning, 70, of Williamsburg, passed away on Monday at her home. Evelyn was born in Toledo, Ohio on April 9, 1931, the daughter of John and Clytice (Deck) Perrin. On Aug. 20, 1950, she married Raymond Denning of Jonesville. Evelyn was a homemaker who helped on the family dairy farm until retiring in 1980 and moving to the Williamsburg area. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary 383 of Traverse City, a lifetime member of the Michigan Snowmobilers Association and a member of the Grand Traverse Snow Spiders Snowmobile Club. Evelyn enjoyed outdoor activities of snowmobiling, dune buggying, golf and traveling. Evelyn is survived by her husband of 51 years, Raymond; her children, Steve (Kathy) Denning, Bonnie (Jack) Marsh and Doug (Bambi) Denning; her grandchildren, Brian, Courtney, Kristy, Karyn, Clifton, Patrick, Kyle and Matt, all of Jonesville; and her brother, Robert Perrin of Grayling. A Celebration of Life in memory of Evelyn will be held at the Eagles in Traverse City on Thursday at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Munson Hospice. EVANSTON, Ill. - With sadness for her absence from this life and joy for her presence in the next, her family announces the death of Katherine Johnston Rodger in Evanston, Ill. on Friday. Katherine graduated from the University of Missouri in 1926 with a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration and later earned a Master of Arts in Religious Education from Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University in New York City. She married John Rodger, "the best man in the whole world," in New York City on July 3, 1935. Katherine and John settled in Bellaire in 1935. Katherine was a full partner in their life, supporting his practice of medicine for the next 43 years, and sharing his commitment to the life of that town. She was an active leader in support for the public schools, the Bellaire United Methodist Church, the Bellaire Ladies Literary Club, the Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility Auxiliary and the United Methodist Women at the local, district and state level. On their retirement in 1980, she and John moved to Friendship Village in Kalamazoo, where she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. In February 2001, she moved to Presbyterian Homes in Evanston, Ill. to be closer to her daughter, Joey. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Jo (Joey) Rodger of Evanston, Ill.; son, James L. (Jim) Rodger of Argyle, Manitoba; four beloved grandchildren, Anders Benson, Paul Rodger, Jennifer Rodger and Michael Rodger; her brother, Franklin Johnston; brother-in-law, Dr. Robert Bogue of Bellaire; and a host of cherished nieces, nephews and extended family members, four of whom carry her name, Katherine, as a legacy. She was preceded in death by her loving and well-loved husband, John R. Rodger MD, an infant daughter, Harriet Ann; her daughter, Mary Jean Rodger; and her three sisters, Josephine Johnston, Charlotte Bogue and Harriet Calvert. At Katherine's request, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held in Evanston, Ill. on Dec. 1, 2001. Some of her ashes will be placed with John's in Bellaire in the spring, and some will be scattered as his were in a birch forest on the south shore of their beloved Lake Superior. Friends who wish may make memorial gifts to any one of the following: The Bellaire United Methodist Church of Bellaire, The Bellaire Public Library of Bellaire, The Library and media center of the John R. Rodger School of Bellaire and The First United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo. SPRING ARBOR - Violet "Judy" Merillot, 83, of Spring Arbor, passed away on Saturday. She was the daughter of Floyd and Ada (Saunders) Merillat. She is survived by her five brothers, Walter (Alzora) of Rapid City, Carl (Dorothy), Floyd Jr. (Marcia), Stuart (Carol) of Elk Rapids and Estle of Plymouth; and daughter, Vivian (Frank) Walewski of Jackson. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Grace (Clayton) Allen, Caroline (Bion) Gassman and Myrtle (Carroll) Busey; and brothers, Donald and Earl Merillat. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Nov. 17, at 10 a.m. at the Covell Funeral Home in Elk Rapids, with her nephew, Daniel Merillat officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. CHARLES H. GAUDETTE, 70, of Traverse City, died on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. ABRAMCZYK, 90, of Manistee, died on Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, at Tendercare of Manistee. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Herbert Funeral Home in Manistee. Mass From The Order of Christian Funerals will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Saint Mary's of Mount Carmel Shrine in Manistee. Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in Manistee on Wednesday. DAN PITSENBERGER, 67, of South Boardman, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. VIOLETTA M. HOOVER, 87, of Interlochen, died on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born on Nov. 13, 1913, in Pennsylvania. Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, 13271 Honor Hwy., Beulah. Visitation will be held at the church at the time of the service.
