TRAVERSE CITY - Clara L. Gille, 93, of Traverse City, formerly of St. Clair, died Wednesday at home.
      Born June 25, 1908 in St. Clair, she was the daughter of Louis and Louise (Jehle) Schweihofer.
      Clara was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed quilting and volunteering at the St. Mary's Catholic School and the Lenten Fish Frys.
      Survivors include daughters, Carolyn (Ken) Cheryba of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Marilyn (Martin) Selby of Traverse City; grandsons, Ryan (Nicole) Selby of Maple City and Justin Selby of Traverse City; six great-grandchildren; and twin brothers, Louis and Lawrence Schweihofer, both of St. Clair.
      She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers and sisters.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. with a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Tuesday at Friederichs Funeral Home, 214 Trumbull Street, St. Clair from 4 to 8 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.
      A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Clair on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in St. Clair.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic School.
     
      STAYTON, Ore. - Paul Howland Norton, age 73, of Stayton, Ore., and formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001.
      Paul was born in Corvallis, Ore. on April 18, 1928, the second son of Charles H. and Constance B. Norton. The family left Oregon in 1940 to reside in Michigan where Paul finished his education at Traverse City Central High School and Michigan State University. Paul married the former Donna May Martin in 1951.
      After a time in the U.S. Naval Air Force, he completed his education at MSU majoring in civil engineering. He was most noted for his work in hydrology and environmental protection. Paul and his wife, Donna, raised four daughters who survive, Amanda Price of Holland, Rebecca Norton of Whitefish, Mont., Corinne Norton of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Jenny Norton of Morro Bay, Calif.
      Paul loved the outdoors, camping, and fishing in Canada, and teaching his young daughters to fish from the pier in Santa Cruz, Calif. He was a marvelous carpenter, having remodeled and restored a Victorian home which was the family dwelling for several years. He shared his talents with many community organizations.
      Eventually, Paul moved back to Oregon and the Willamette Valley that he had loved as a child. A part of Paul will always be in the Willamette River.
      In addition to his four daughters, Paul is survived by two grandsons, Colin and Nathan Price of Holland; a sister, Molly Nelson of Tucson, Ariz.; and a brother, James J. Norton, M.D. of Solana Beach, Calif.
      Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 24 years, Donna, in 1975.
      A memorial service was held at the Bird and Hat Inn in Stayton, Ore.
      Donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
     
      WILLIAMSBURG - Beverly C. Carl, 69, of Williamsburg, died Thursday at Munson Medical Center.
      She was born Beverly Jean Cassidy on January 27, 1932 in Grosse Point, the daughter of Albert and Florence (Leman) Cassidy. A graduate of Southeastern High School and Michigan State University, Beverly earned her bachelor's degree in speech pathology. She then taught in the Oakland County Schools. Beverly was active in sports, especially tennis. On February 26, 1955, in Royal Oak, she married James W. Carl. Beverly was an active volunteer in her communities, and was president of the Birmingham Alumni of Delta Gamma. She loved music and was active in the Toledo Symphony instructing school children prior to concerts as to what they would hear. She was a member of the AAUW, The Presbyterian Church of Traverse City and the Voyagers. She was also a member of the Traverse Symphony Orchestra Associates.
      Beverly is survived by her husband, James Waid Carl; her children, Brad Carl of Logan, Utah, Kathy (Armando) Sarmiento of Miami, Tricia (Greg) Camarato of Luxembourg and James (Kim) Carl of Gainesville, Va.; and her two granddaughters, Stacy and Emily Camarato.
      Beverly was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Shirley Williams.
      At Beverly's request, her body was donated for research.
      Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster, Traverse City, with the Rev. Dr. Homer Nye officiating. Friends may call at the church at the time of services.

      DEXTER - Gary Alan Blossom, 48, of Dexter, passed on to his heavenly home on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001. His mother and brothers were at his side at the time of his death.
      Gary was born in Ann Arbor on June, 11, 1953, the son of Gardner Elliotte and Mary (Salamin) Blossom.
      Gary loved sports, especially football, basketball and swimming. He had a very interesting life. Gary was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local #80.
      Gary is survived by his loving companion, Cathy Sterling; his mother Mary; his brothers, Cliff and Phil Blossom; and his son, Richard.
      Gary was preceded in death by his father and an older brother, Richard.
      A memorial service is pending. Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Washtenaw.
      Arrangements were handled by the Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel in Dexter.
     
      EDMAN M. "BUD" GORDIER, age 85, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
      Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, at the funeral home in Kingsley.

      LOUISE MAE MCLENITHAN, 66, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Congregational Church with visitation at the time of the service.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      MARY M. PERLAKI, age 64, of Kingsley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
     
      MARION FISHER POOLE, 78, of East Jordan, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Boulder Park Terrace Nursing Home in Charlevoix.
      The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday; and from noon until time of service on Tuesday, at the funeral home.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Penzien Funeral Homes, Inc. in East Jordan.
     
      LORENE D. SEDLACEK, age 76, of Kingsley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
      Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral

      HOOPESTON, Ill. - Mary Ann (Hoag) Franklin, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Ill.
      Mary Ann was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis. on Jan 23, 1930, the daughter of Harold and Alice Hoag. She attended school in Traverse City, and graduated from Traverse City High School. Mary Ann married Carl E. Franklin in 1950 in Traverse City.
      Mrs. Franklin had been a resident of Hoopeston, Ill. since 1959. She worked as a photo technician for the Chronicle Herald newspaper for 20 years. As a member of the First Presbyterian Church she served on the pastoral care committee and did volunteer work for the Hoopeston Food Cupboard and Meals on Wheels program.
      She will be sadly missed by friends and family. Mary Ann is survived by her husband of 51 years, Carl; two daughters, Janice Marie (Larry) German of Hoopeston, Ill. and Shelly Ann Henson of Danville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth German; one brother, Richard H. (Mary) Hoag of Traverse City; and several nieces and nephews.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marjorie Dean Hoag.
      A private memorial service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 20, in Hoopeston, Ill., with the Rev. Ann Schwartz officiating.
      The family requests that any memorial contributions be directed to the Hoopeston Food Cupboard.
