WALTER E. ALBRECHT, 75, of Karlin, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Arrangements to be announced by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      MARIE C. BANICKI, age 82, of Eastlake, passed away on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee.
      A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at the Herbert Funeral Home of Manistee. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
     
      Memorial services for BEVERLY C. CARL, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at The Presbyterian Church in Traverse City.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      EDITH ELVERA FARBER, 81, of Northport, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Leelanau Memorial Health Center.
      Arrangements are pending at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
     
      GLENN W. FOLLETT, 88, of Traverse City, passed away on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, 2001, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.

      DOROTHY MAE PAVLIS, age 87, of Buckley, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001.
      A memorial service will be held at the Grant United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 28, at 1 p.m.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

      HERMAN W. BUFE, 100, of Traverse City, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
     
      DAISY R. MANIA, age 67, of Paris, Mich., and formerly of Traverse City, passed away on Friday evening, Nov. 23, 2001, at home surrounded by family.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, at Immaculate Conception Church, with the Rev. Fr. James Hayden serving as celebrant.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Edman M. "Bud" Gordier, 85, of Traverse City, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Bud was born in Grosse Pointe on April 4, 1916, and was the son of Edman Sr. and Elizabeth (Eastwood) Gordier. Bud and Virginia have lived in Traverse City for the last 14 years, moving here from Westland, and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 24 of this year.
      Bud was a truck driver for the Kroger Foods Company, and retired after 43 years with the company. He received the Truck Driver of the Year Award, having driven over one million miles without a single accident.
      Bud is survived by his wife, Virginia (Rinz) Gordier of Traverse City; his daughter, Sharon Osbon of Belleville; five grandchildren, Victoria MacDonald, Andrea Connolly, and Casey, Jodi, and Jeremy Graham; and one great-granddaughter, Kira MacDonald.
      Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lorri Graham; and three sisters.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home, Kingsley.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Homer Nye officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Traverse City, MI 49684.

      KINGSLEY - Lorene D. Sedlacek, 76, of Kingsley, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Lorene was born in Barker Creek on March 26, 1925, the daughter of Thomas M. and Alice May (Arnold) Dockery. Lorene then moved to Kewadin as a small girl. On Aug. 21, 1946 in Elk Rapids, Lorene married Raymond Sedlacek. Lorene and Raymond have been residents of Kingsley since 1946.
      Lorene was employed as the librarian of the Kingsley Public Library for 25 years, retiring in 1988. She was a member of St. Mary's Hannah Catholic Church, and the Kingsley Women's Civic Club. She was also a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America. Lorene enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and flower gardening.
      Lorene is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond; two sons, Thomas Sedlacek of Mayfield, and Stephen (Jessica) Sedlacek of Kingsley; two daughters, Alice (Ronald) Anderson of Traverse City, and Kristine Rennie of Kingsley; 16 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Patricia Dockery in infancy, and Dorothy Conant in 2000; one foster brother, Alex Jarmolinski; and one grandson, Aaron Rennie.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Covell-Smith Funeral Home, Kingsley.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patrick Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Parkinson Foundation.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Marianne Ravenscraft, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Grand Traverse Pavilions on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001.
      Marianne was born in Oak Park, Ill. on Sept. 16, 1923, to Vernon and Elizabeth Waite.
      She had lived in Traverse City for the past 17 years.
      Marianne graduated from Battle Creek Lakeview High School and The Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing. She spent a lifetime caring for others at Pontiac General Hospital and as head operating room nurse for Westminster General Hospital in Westminster, Calif., where she retired in 1983. She spent much of her spare time knitting very special sweaters and afghans for her friends and family, and taking care of her yard and gardens.
      She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Barton (Dick Hennig) of Granite Bay, Calif., her son, Bruce W. (Laurie) Reavely of Traverse City, her son, Andrew R. (Crystal) MacKean of Riverside, Calif.; her sister, Barbara (Frank) Gklenski; and grandchildren, Matthew Waite Barton, Scott, Nick, and Lauren Reavely, and Linda, and Amanda MacKean.
      Her parents; brother-in-law, Richard Marquart; and an infant granddaughter preceded her in death.
      Marianne was an avid Detroit Tigers baseball fan, never missing a game on the radio. She collected Detroit Tigers memorabilia, including autographs for the past 70 years and was often seen talking to the players before the game when the Tigers played in California. She was the proud owner of the 1935 Iffy The Dopster, Iffy's Book of Tiger Tales.
      She played in many bridge clubs in the Traverse City area including the Mozell Bennett Sawyer Bridge Club and was very close to being a life master. You could see Marianne volunteering at most events in town especially at Munson Hospital and Northwestern Michigan College. She kept busy with many odd jobs and you may have seen her delivering your telephone book in her 1968 Mustang she called "Betsy," or at Peddlers Corners on Saturdays.
      Marianne was a great lover of dogs and throughout her life her dogs and granddogs gave her joy and comfort.
      While there will be no memorial service at this time, family and friends will be celebrating her life next summer at a Detroit Tigers baseball game. All are welcome to come to the game.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Pavilions, or the American Alzheimer's Association.
      The Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
     
      FRANKFORT - Lillye L. Ensign, 88, of Frankfort, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at The Maples in Frankfort.
      Lillye was born in Poplar Bluff, Miss. on Dec. 10, 1912, the daughter of James L. and Elizabeth (Markham) Vinson. She married Elbert Edwin Ensign in Dearborn on February 11, 1967. Lillye was a homemaker, and had been a former 40 year resident of Ypsilanti.
      Lillye is survived by many loving family members and friends including her daughter-in-law, Lola (Larry) Lung of Beulah; granddaughters, Ann (Stephen) Ault of Lake Ann, Sandra (Edward) Scarbrough of Traverse City, and Joyce (Timothy) Antel of Lowell; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Ila) Vinson of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; eight nephews, and five nieces; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
      Lillye was preceded in death by her husband, E. E. Ensign; her son, Fred J. Johnson; brothers, James Lester Vinson, and Robert Vinson; her sister, Thelma Holt; and three nephews.
      Cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for sometime in the spring of 2002.

      SUTTONS BAY - Walter Joseph Kalchik, 66, of Suttons Bay, passed away on Saturday at his home.
      Walt was born in Suttons Bay on May 18, 1935, the son of Louis L. and Helen (Nemeskal) Kalchik. In 1960, he married Donna Weimer in Traverse City.
      Walt was the president of Kalchik's Disposal Service in Suttons Bay. He was a member of the Leelanau Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years, and was active in the Northport Sportsman's Club, where he served as treasurer. Walt enjoyed the outdoors, and especially fishing and hunting.
      Walt served his country overseas in West Germany in the U.S. Army.
      Walt is survived by his wife of 41 years, Donna of Suttons Bay; his three children, Rebecca Warner, Guy Kalchik, and David Kalchik; four sisters, Delores Riggle, Jean Kalchik, Cynthia Gilliand, and Georgia Allen; three brothers, Victor Kalchik, Francis Kalchik, and Albion Kalchik; and two grandsons, Michael Gene, and Joshua Walter Warner.
      Walt was preceded in death by his brother, Harold; and his son, Andrew.
      A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, at the Trinity Church in Northport, with Rev. Joseph Ripley officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Omena.
      Memorial contributions may be made to either the Leelanau Township Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Northport Sportsman's Club.
