Obituaries


      INTERLOCHEN - Our beloved David passed from this life to be with God on Wednesday, October 17, 2001.
      He was born on Dec. 10, 1972, in Bethesda, Md., the son of Thomas and Barbara Witte.
      As a boy, David was quiet, introspective, generous and giving with a great sense of humor. In high school, he enjoyed playing tennis, doing art projects and being with friends. He graduated from Mattawan High School and went on to Western Michigan, where he earned a degree in business. His first job after college was with the Sherwin Williams Company in Traverse City. Recently, he became employed as a pharmaceutical rep with Merck and Co. It was in Traverse City that he met his darling, Emily. They were married on June 13, 1998. Their little girl, Hannah Grace, was born on May 20, 1999, and David adored her. For several years, David was involved in the Big Brother Program, and leaves behind his little brother, Evan.
      David's life was one of hard work and joy. He loved his family and friends and was always willing to help out when needed. He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and working with wood. David's life ended as a result of an automobile accident.
      He leaves behind his daughter, Hannah, his wife, Emily; her parents, Mary and Jerry Dillinger; all of Traverse City; his parents, Tom and Barbara Witte of Mattawan; his sister, Suzanne Moyle, and her husband, Mike, of Mattawan; nieces, Ashley and Olivia; nephew, Brett Moyle; his grandmothers, Annabelle Stearns and Marie Witte - all of Mattawan; three aunts; one uncle; three cousins; and many good friends.
      Funeral Services will be held on Monday, October 22 at 1 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Traverse City. Rev. D. Edward Emenheiser officiating.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
      Memorial donations my be made to the Hannah Witte Scholarship Fund or Big Brothers and Big Sisters c/o the funeral home at 305 6th St., Traverse City, MI 49684.
     
      GRAWN - Earl Lee Chambers, 18, of the Grawn and the Traverse City area for the past 11 years, died on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001.
      Earl was born in Johnson City, Tenn., on March 20, 1983, the son of Deborah (Duncan) Godin. He was a student at Traverse City High School.
      Earl is survived by his mother, Deborah, and stepfather, Jack, of Interlochen; one brother, Michael Chambers; grandfather, David Hugh Duncan of Tennessee; his great-grandmothers; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
      A Service of Remembrance will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the funeral services. William David Duncan will be officiating.
      A luncheon will follow the service at the Interlochen Eagles.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or the Goodwill Shelter.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      SUSAN B. SHUTES, 80, of Beulah, passed away at her residence on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001.
      Arrangements are being handled with the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home of Beulah.
     
      MAX W. UNDERWOOD, 78, a summer resident of Beulah for the past 50 years, died at his home on Crystal Lake Friday afternoon, Oct. 19, 2001.
      Memorial services were held yesterday at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ned Edwards officiating.
      The family was served by the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes.
