John Napora
      Died October 17, 2001
      THOMPSONVILLE - John Napora, 76, of Thompsonville, died on Wednesday at Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital Long Term Care.
      Mr. Napora was born on June 7, 1925, in Detroit, the son of Wasyl and Mary (Bachor) Napora.
      Mr. Napora spent the majority of his life in the Thompsonville area, where he was the manager for Modern Lumber Company in Thompsonville. He also farmed and was well known for his strawberries. He held a Master Electrician, Builder's and Plumber's license. He built many homes in the area and assisted with the construction of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Copemish. He was also the former Treasurer of Springdale Township.
      He enjoyed farming and growing crops, his time at the lumber yard and was very active in his church life at St. Raphael's.
      He is survived by a niece, Sharon; nephews, Ron, Bill and Dennis; several great nieces and nephews; and by one great-great-niece and nephew.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Kivinen and Estelle Banasiak; and a niece, Diane.
      Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. from St. Raphael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Richard Kosterman celebrant. Interment will follow at Thompsonville Cemetery.
      The family has suggested memorials to St. Raphael's Catholic Church.
      The Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes served the family.
     
      Esther Elizabeth Shiley
      Died October 20, 2001
      NORTHPORT - Esther Elizabeth Shiley, 77, of Northport, died on Saturday at the Leelanau Memorial Health Center.
      She was born on July 4, 1924, in Altoona, Pa., the daughter of James and Nellie (Cunningham) Kauffman. On Sept. 4, 1945, in Kalamazoo, she married James A. Shiley.
      Esther was a registered nurse. She was very active in the Ladies Volunteer Group at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. She was also involved with the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and St. Lukes Episcopal Church. Esther worked at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for more than 17 years.
      Besides her husband, James, she is survived by her four children, Patricia Shiley of Kalamazoo, Richard Shiley of Washington, Linda McPhail of Okemus and James Shiley Jr. of Kalamazoo; one sister, Jennie Mae Rodgers of Florida; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
      She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Glen and Raymond.
      A Memorial Service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church of Northport with the Rev. Dr. Thomas H. Guback officiating. Burial will be in the Leelanau Township Cemetery.
      In lieu of Flowers, contributions may be made to the Leelanau Memorial Health Center or St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Northport.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay.
      JON A. BRADFORD, 53, of Bear Lake, passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at Manistee Medical Care Facility.
      Memorial services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Bear Lake United Methodist Church.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Edwards-Oak Grove Funeral Home in Bear Lake.
     
      RUTH T. (PAUL) BECKWELL, 89, of Traverse City, died on Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, at home.
      Arrangements will be announced by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      ROY NEVIN, 74, of Elk Rapids, died on Sunday at home.
      A memorial celebration of Roy's life will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Elk Rapids AMVETS Post # 114.
      A full obituary will appear in the next edition of the Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      ELSIE ABELN, of Traverse City, died Sunday at her home.
      Arrangements are pending with the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Services will be announced in the Thursday edition of the Record-Eagle.
