The Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes has been entrusted with arrangements. NANCY L. MCFARLAND, age 69, of Beulah, passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at the Frankfort Seventh Day Adventist Church. No visitation is scheduled at the funeral home. The Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements. FRANK A. NOTEWARE, 95, of Traverse City, passed away on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Bortz Health Care. Arrangements to be announced by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City. ESTHER ELIZABETH SHILEY, 77, of Northport, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2001, at Leelanau Memorial Health Center. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Northport. Burial will be in Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport. Arrangements are being handled by Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. MAPLE CITY - Doris M. Knapp, 71, of Maple City, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2001, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. Doris was born in Jenners, Pa., on April 25, 1930, to Andrew and Lucille (Pritz) Melleky. Doris married Robert C. Knapp on April 8, 1991 in Las Vegas. Doris graduated from the University of Michigan and was a teacher and entrepreneur. She taught school in Highland Park early in her career. Doris loved skiing, boating and traveling across the entire country in her motor home. Doris had a real gift for making friends everywhere she traveled. She raised five children and loved spending time with her family and friends. She will forever be remembered by her five children who feel so blessed to have had her as their mother. Doris is survived by her husband, Robert C. Knapp; her children, Carlotta Schroeder, Hank Schroeder, Marty Schroeder, Marcia Schroeder, Sharon (Jeffrey) (Schroeder) Frank, Paul Knapp, Bill Knapp, James Knapp and Pat Knapp; eight grandchildren, Mary Woolpert, Travis Frank, Austin Frank, Wesley Knapp, Jesse Knapp, Robert Knapp, Marissa Knapp and Paul Knapp; two great-grandchildren, Jermane Schroeder and Marcus Burpo; and her sister, Betty Shubik. Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Ann Sheftic. Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Northport. Rev. Jon DeBruyn will officiate. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Area Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Traverse City, MI 49684. VanLeishout, 94, a native of the Traverse City area since 1913, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2001, at the Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City. Frances was born in Okrouhlicky Dvoraci, Czechoslovakia, on Nov. 27, 1906, the daughter of Albert and Marie (Tesar) Svec. She married Edward VanLeishout in Grand Rapids on June 19, 1926. Frances was employed as a licensed psychiatric attendant nurse at the Traverse City State Hospital, retiring in 1970 after 28 years of employment. Frances worked in nursing all of her adult life, which included both Blodgett and Munson hospitals. Frances was an avid gardener and especially liked growing roses and irises. She loved to bake and to do crossword puzzles. Frances is survived by her two daughters, Marianne (Adolph) Klepetka of Traverse City and Cathy (Chuck) Bolter of Interlochen; her son, Edward C. VanLeishout of Traverse City; two grandsons, four granddaughters; three great-grandsons, five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, in 1992; five brothers, Joseph, Hynek, Albert, Charles and John Svec; and two sisters, Mary Sleder and Anna Robertson. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 28, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. The funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, also at the funeral home, with Rev. Phil Douglas officiating. Interment will be at the Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery, Traverse City. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation, or to the American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Traverse City, MI 49684. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. THOMPSONVILLE - James Henry Hankins Sr., age 66, died Wednesday at Munson Medical Center. James is survived by his wife, Roberta Hankins; daughter, Roseanne Lord, sons, James Henry Hankins Jr., Frank D. Hankins, Ray Hankins and David Newstead; sisters, Gloria Longton, Augusta Losey; brothers, Henry "Hank" Michaels, Arthur Michaels and Raymond Melzer and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Arjettia "Lou" Ashley. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, with visitation one hour prior to the time of service. Burial will take place in Grant Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. |
