Obituaries

BRETA SWEETNAM, 95, of Manistee, died on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2001, at her home. She was born on Nov. 11, 1905, in Hillsdale County.
      Visitation will be held on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Manistee. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the church.

      SUSAN LUEHR, 56, of Traverse City, died Sunday afternoon at her home.
      Arrangements are pending and will be announced by the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      ALVIS W. PITTS, 74, of Manistee, died on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at the Manistee County Medical Care Facility.
      A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Livonia. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.
      The Oak Grove Cremation Center of Manistee is in charge of funeral arrangements.
      ALVIN J. "BUD" BROWN, 71, of Mancelona, formerly of Grayling, died on Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center. He was born on July 19, 1930, in Leota.
      Visitation was held on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sorenson Funeral Home in Grayling. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in the Beaver Creek Township Cemetery.
     
      CELIA CHRISTINE KALCHIK, 93, of Gills Pier, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Bortz Health Care.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Martinson Funeral Home in Suttons Bay. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday evening.
      A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Gills Pier with the Rev. Reynoldo Garcia officiating. Burial will be in St. Wenceslaus Cemetery.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Marcella A. Denoyer was born in Lake Leelanau on Sept. 23, 1941, and passed away on Sept. 4, 2001, at Munson Medical Center. Marcella was the fifth child of Louis and Esther (Osie) Denoyer.
      Marcella is survived by two sisters, Patricia Denoyer Mosher and Doris Denoyer, both of Traverse City; and two brothers, Cletus Denoyer of Ann Arbor and Thomas Denoyer of South Lyon.
      She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Bernard, Lawrence and Ronald.
      Cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau.
      Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic School in Lake Leelanau.
      KINGSLEY - Vern Miller, 76, of Kingsley, formerly of Toledo, died on Sunday.
      An army veteran, he served in Europe from 1942 to 1946. Vern was an avid fisherman and hunter.
      He is survived by sons, Donald (Pat), Steven, Michael (Linda); and three grandchildren.
      Vern was preceded in death by his wife, Doris.
      There will be no visitation. Services will be private. Vern will be buried at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo.
      HARRISON - Norvell O. Way, 78, of Harrison, passed away Saturday at his residence.
      Mr. Way was born Oct. 7, 1923, in Detroit, the son of Warren and Virginia (Brown) Way. He married Esther Blamb on Oct. 10, 1942, in Alden.
      Mr. Way had resided in Harrison since 1988, moving from Garden City. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #2235 and the V.F.W. Post 1075, both of Harrison and the Clare Pilots Association. He enjoyed playing the piano and the accordion, building ultra light planes and loved flying.
      He is survived by two sons, Rodney (Linda) Way of New Boston and Mark Way of Harrison; a brother, George Way of Grandville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother, Forest Way.
      Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10 a.m. from Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison, with Pastor Donald Lackie officiating. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. in the Clearwater Township Cemetery in Rapid City, with military honors.
      KALKASKA - Eugene "Fuzz" Fast, 59, of Kalkaska, passed away on Saturday at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
      He was born on March 4, 1942, in Albion to Clarence R. and Evelyn M. (Reynolds) Fast.
      Fuzz married Debbie on Dec. 19, 1993. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and Special Forces. Fuzz was a farmer and an Industrial Construction Supervisor. He was a member of V.F.W. Kalkaska Post and Moose Lodge.
      Fuzz is survived by his family, wife, Debbie; daughters, Toni Marie (Jerry) Bess of Kalkaska; Julie Fast (Jody Hunt) of Holland; sons, Gary (Chris) Fast and Greg Fast, all of Kalkaska, Adam (Sandra) Baugh of Phoenix, Ariz., Eric (Claudette) Baugh of Mancelona and Marc Baugh of Kalkaska; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Roger Fast and Dennis Fast of Marshall; sister, Marcille Katz of Marshall; and special friend, Judy Fast of Kalkaska, mother of Gary, Greg and Julie.
      Visitation will be today at Wolfe Funeral Home from 5 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bear Lake Christian Church with Pastor David Rosenberg officiating. Interment will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Homer.
      Memorials may be made in behalf of Fuzz to Bear Lake Christian Church or Kalkaska V.F.W.
