Obituaries

ACME - Corbett R. Sayler, 92, lifelong resident of Acme, died Friday evening at the Grand Traverse Pavilions.
      Corbett was born on Oct. 5, 1908, in Williamsburg, the son of Everett and Flora (Morrison) Sayler. He married the former Eleanor Dyke in 1938 in Traverse City.
      He was a fruit farmer for many years, a member of the First Congregational Church, Traverse City Elks Lodge # 323, and enjoyed golfing and traveling.
      Mr. Sayler is survived by two daughters, Helen (Kirt) Wenzel of Traverse City and Barbara (Bill) Vockel of Calumet; one son, Richard (Donna) Sayler of Williamsburg; one brother, Reynolds Sayler of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, in 1988; two sisters, Miriam Seigel and Katherine Birdsall.
      Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Sinclair officiating. Interment will be at the Yuba Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grand Traverse Pavilions or the First Congregational Church.
     
      BEULAH - Arlene Mary "Memaw" Corey, 52, of Beulah, died Friday at Spectrum Health Downtown Campus in Grand Rapids. She was born Nov. 22, 1948, the daughter of Charles and Viola (Hargraves) Padgett. On June 16, 1965, in Ludington, Arlene married Leonard James Corey.
      Arlene loved baby-sitting and had taken care of numerous children in Benzie County for many years. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, who had a gift of being a friend to all she met.
      She is survived by her husband, Leonard James Corey; her mother, Viola Padgett of Free Soil; four children, Wendy Stinebaugh of Interlochen, Janet (Randy) Fehler of Minnesota, Jerry (Carrie) Corey of Beulah and Billi Corey of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Zachary Corey, Joshua Corey, Corey Fehler and Austin Fehler; one sister, Ella (Richard) Lemire of Scottville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
      Arlene was preceded in death by her father, Charles Padgett; and her infant son, Ricky Corey.
      On Sept. 14, 2001, Arlene gave the gift of life through the organ donation program at Spectrum Health in Grand Rapids.
      Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah.
      Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Eden Bible Church in Beulah, with Pastor Dan Ingersoll officiating. Interment will be in Homestead Township Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Envelopes are available at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.

      ELK RAPIDS - Bernice May Halloran, 91, of Elk Rapids, passed away on Friday.
      Bernice was born in Grand Rapids, Dec. 12, 1909, the daughter of Walter John and Edith (Clark) Carey. On July 11, 1929, she married Ray Hunter.
      Mrs. Halloran moved to Elk Rapids 12 years ago from Grand Rapids and had been a lifelong visitor to the Elk Rapids area prior to her moving there. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family.
      Beatrice is survived by her daughter, Joanne E. (Thomas H.) Anderson; a sister, Helen Rowe of Grand Rapids; a brother-in-law, Truman John (Linda) Hunter; five grandchildren, Dianne Hall, Denise (Jonathan) Heeke, Dennis (Cheryl) Hoezee, Douglas (Sonya) Hoezee, all of Grand Rapids, and Donald (Michelle) Hoezee of Elk Rapids; and nine great-grandchildren.
      She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ray Hunter in 1957, Carson Jackson in 1960, and Maxwell Halloran in 1971; and a brother, Walter Carey.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, at the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      A Celebration of Life will be held Monday at noon at the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids with the Rev. Dr. Daniel Herlein officiating. Interment will be at the Maplegrove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Elk Rapids Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      Memorial Contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids.
     
      CARMEN S. KEEZER, 95, of Gaylord, formerly of Fairview, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2001, at McReynolds Hall in Gaylord.
      Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Orr Funeral Home in Mio.
     
      KEITH W. WANDER, 60 of Northport, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2001, at his home.
      Friends may call Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home, in Suttons Bay.
      A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay.
      A full obituary will appear in the Monday edition of the Record-Eagle.
