Memorial services for JEANNE MARIE JOHNSON will be held on Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, at the First Congregational Church of Traverse City. The service will begin at 5:30 p.m. and be conducted by Rev. Ron Sinclair.
      Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home is serving the family.
     
      MARIE "BEA" (RIOUX) KELLEY, 76, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
      Friends are invited to join Bea's family for a Mass at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Father Gerald Micketti will be serving as celebrant.
      Interment will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery in Traverse City at 3 p.m. Monday.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mass Intentions.
     
      VINTON C. KINNEY, 58, of Traverse City, died unexpectedly at his home.
      Arrangements are pending at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      SCOTT A. WURM, age 33, of Traverse City, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
      A Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held Tuesday at noon at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A complete obituary will appear in Monday's edition of the Record-Eagle.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Loretta M. Schueller passed on to a better life on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City.
      Loretta was born on June 20, 1914, in Milwaukee, to Joseph and Augusta (Martin) Andres. She was raised in Beal City where she later married Clarence J. Schueller on Sept. 7, 1938. They resided in Beal City where they raised five children before moving their family to Traverse City in 1966.
      Loretta was a very active member and volunteer of the St. Francis parish of Traverse City. She and her husband were lifetime members of the National Star Route Mail Contractors Association. She was an active participant in her children's and grandchildren's lives.
      Loretta is survived by her children, James (Marie), Joseph (Kathryn), Lorraine (and good friend Dale), all of Traverse City, John (and fiancee, Patti), and Dale (JoAnn), all of Milwaukee. She enjoyed her nine grandchildren, Michael (Trina), Joseph, Craig, Daniel, Adam, and Ben Schueller, Amy (Jason) Hillier, Leesa (Brad) Curtis, and Sarah (Mark) West. Loretta would have enjoyed holding and playing with her great-grandchildren, Hanna Curtis and Matthew West, and the great-grandchild that is expected to arrive any day. Loretta is also survived by her twin sister, Sister M. Theodine of Grand Rapids, and sisters Celestine Hackett of Mt. Pleasant and Agnes Fox of Beal City; and a large extended family.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence, to whom she was married for 49 years, and two children in infancy. Her brother, Aloy Andres and sister, Theodine Hackett also preceded her in death.
      Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 30 from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Francis Church in Traverse City, where a rosary will be recited at 6 p.m.
      The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 1, at St. Francis Church, with Father William Lipscomb serving as Celebrant. Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Diocesan Cemetery.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to The Grand Rapids Dominican Aquinata Hall, or to the charity of your choice.
      The family is being served by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home of Traverse City.
     
      RIDGECREST, Calif. - Ervin J. Bachmann, 89, of Ridgecrest, Calif., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2001, at Beverly Health Care Facility.
      He was born on Aug. 9, 1912, on the family farm in Ludington, the son of Hugo and Margaret (Setzke) Bachmann.
      During World War II, Ervin served for four years with the 312th Field Artillery of the 79th Infantry Division. He was among the troops that landed on the wind- and rain-swept beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. For the next 18 months the 79th, made up of the 310th through the 315th divisions, fought their way through France from Cherbourg across the Seine River and on to Belgium. Once in Germany, they stormed the Rhine in Ruhr. Ervin served until the end of the war.
      Returning to civilian life, he made his home with his brother, Paul, in Central Lake, and later lived with his parents in Traverse City. Around 1962, he moved to China Lake, Calif. Ervin was employed as an engineering technician for the Naval Weapons Center. After retirement, he moved to Ridgecrest, Calif.
      Ervin is survived by two sisters-in-law, Elinor M. Bachmann of Cadillac and Esther Bachmann of Kalkaska; nieces and nephews, Ronald (Hilda) Bachmann of Fairborn, Ohio, Donna Bachmann-Batterbee of Central Lake, Kathryn Bachmann-Stacey of Grand Rapids, Michael (Christine) Bachmann of Central Lake and Brenda B. Bachmann of Elkhart, Ind.
      Ervin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Theodore, Hugo, Paul, Karl and Norman; and a nephew, David Karl Bachmann.
      Memorial services will be held in the spring of 2002. Interment will be in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake Township, in Central Lake.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      PESHAWBESTOWN - Carl Lee Raphael, 52, of Peshawbestown, passed away Friday at Munson Medical Center.
      Carl was born on Sept. 20, 1949, in Traverse City, the son of Carl and Julia Cecila (Mashka) Raphael.
      Although employed as a roofer, Carl was well known as a Native American artist. He was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. He liked participating in the powwows.
      Carl is survived by his four children, Nicole (Shane) Sundell, Carl Lee Raphael Jr., Benjamin Calkins and Robert Calkins; four grandchildren, Kelsey Potter, Ronald Oom, Alexis Sundell and Emily Calkins; brothers and sisters, Rosemary Hawley, Clayton "Duke" Raphael, Wanda Raphael, Debbie Raphael, Paul (Tanya) Raphael, Robin Raphael (Greg Sawmick) and Peggy (Bruce) Rocha; eight nieces and 13 nephews; and eight great-nieces and 15 great-nephews.
      Carl was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Duane.
      A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at the home of his brother, Paul Raphael, 8160 N. West Bayshore Dr., Northport. Burial will be in the Kateri Tekakwitha Cemetery in Peshawbestown. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Sunday at the Paul Raphael home.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Frank D. Heminger, 83, of Traverse City, died Friday, Sept. 28, 2001.
      Frank was born on Oct. 29, 1917, in Benton Harbor, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Allen) Heminger. On Jan. 13, 1940, in Benton Harbor, Frank married the former Virginia Felgner. They resided in the Benton Harbor area prior to moving to Traverse City in 1963.
      Frank was employed as a salesman for Ferguson's Lawn Equipment of Traverse City and later worked for Interlochen Golf Club as golf course superintendent from 1967 to 1992. He was a former secretary of the Northern Michigan Turf Manager's Association. He loved golfing, bowling, hunting and fishing.
      Frank is survived by his wife, Virginia Heminger; six sons, Richard (Connie) Heminger, and Ronald (Imogene) Heminger, both of Buchanan, Robert Heminger of Traverse City, Thomas (Kathy) Heminger of Grawn, Donald (Bonnie) Heminger of Grand Rapids, and William (Cheryl) Heminger of Mt. Pleasant; three sisters, Kelly (Ken) Grove of Coloma, Ruth Lundeen of Ohio, and Mary (Dean) Betz of Benton Harbor; and three brothers, Edward (Thelma) Heminger of South Haven, Allen (Eleanor) Heminger of Berrien Center, and Martin (Florence) Heminger of Hartford; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
      Frank was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Ann Ferguson.
      Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes, with visitation one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Louis Grettenberger will officiate.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
     
      PLEASANTON, Calif. - Shirley Ann (Trarop) Ellis, 71, formerly of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, in Pleasanton, Calif.
      Shirley was born in Flint on Dec. 6, 1929, the daughter of T.J. and Catherine (Smith) Trarop.
      Shirley graduated from Flint Technical High School in 1948 and married Dale John Ellis on Nov. 24, 1949. Together they had 11 children and are survived by Kevin, Kristine, Kim, Kerry, Kelly, Kathy, Kobi, Klare and Karol; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
      She enjoyed sewing, reading, crossword puzzles, Atlanta Braves baseball, socializing with family and friends. She will be remembered for her compassion, wonderful smile and generous heart.
      She will be sadly missed by her family; sisters, Irene Stroud and Verna Perkins; and many friends from the numerous places she lived during her life.
      Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Marion Misener; her husband, Dale, in 1987; and two infant children.
      A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at Christ Methodist Church, located at Garfield and Three Mile Road in Traverse City. Cremation has taken place.
      A memorial fund has been set up in Shirley's name for the benefit of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
     
      WARREN - Kathleen (Tynan) Dewan, 82, passed away on Thursday, surrounded by her loving family.
      Kathleen was born on Nov. 20, 1918, and was reared in a very Irish household with plenty of music, dance and song. She was the daughter of Peter and Margaret (O'Donnell) Tynan, who hailed from the Emerald Isle counties of Longford and Clare respectively. The Tynan household was a home filled with love and prayer and the site of many neighborhood gatherings. It was here that Kathleen developed her strong sense of community and commitment to her faith and family.
      Whether it was a loving smile, a handwritten note or a phone call to offer support and comfort, Kathleen Dewan always reached out to her friends and family. She was a caring and considerate friend, a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a deeply spiritual individual who prayed for the special intentions of many.
      In 1947, Kathleen married Francis P. Dewan and began a love story that lasted for over 50 years. Kathleen and Frank's children include James J. Dewan of Warren, Mary (Chris) Gordon of Clinton Township, Frank (Lynn) Dewan of Hazel Park, Kathleen (Daniel) O'Neill of Detroit, Judith (Thomas) Bruening of Macomb, Peter (Maura) Dewan of East Lansing and Patricia (Donald) Kenny of Traverse City. Kathleen and Frank were blessed with 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
      Kathleen will be remembered for putting others before herself, her sense of humor, and her devotion to her family, friends and faith.
      Visitation will be held Sunday from 1 to 9 p.m. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr, Warren, (810) 293-8030. There will also be a viewing on Monday from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, with Mass of Resurrection at 10 a.m. The church is located at 32000 Mound in Warren.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Solanus Guild or the Michigan Kidney Foundation.
     
      AUSTIN, Texas - Harold Dean Clark, 87, of Austin, Texas, and formerly of the Detroit and Traverse City areas, passed away this last March 24, 2001.
      Harold was born On Jan. 28, 1913, in South Bend, Ind., but lived the majority of his life in Detroit and Traverse City.
      After attending the University of Michigan, Mr. Clark spent 43 years with the Chrysler Corp. working as an automotive color stylist. During his career, Harold was a longtime member of the Society of Automotive Engineers.
      Harold is survived by his daughters, Nancy Klein, and Susan (J. Wesley) Newmyer; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
      He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret, who passed away in 1997.
      Memorial services will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at the White Chapel Memorial Cemetery-Chapel of the Psalms, 621 W. Long Lake Road, Troy, MI 48098.
