Obituaries

KINGSLEY - Hildegarde Oliverio, 71, of Kingsley, died Thursday at Munson Medical Center.
      A long-time resident of the Grand Traverse area, Hildegarde was born June 5, 1931, in Bernstadt, Germany. She was the daughter of Wilhelm and Luise (Albrecht) Welz.
      Survivors include her son, Ralph Welz of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren, Tracy Welz, Jackie Clowe, Trina Welz; and one sister, Erica Simmons of Forest Lane, Minn.
      No services are planned at this time.
      Arrangements are by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.
     
      NORTHPORT - Josephine Anderson, 83, of Northport, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      She was born in Northport on April 30, 1919, the daughter of Levi and Marion (Antoine) Wanageshik.
      Josephine was an active member of the Northport Indian United Methodist Church and took part in many of the church's activities. She was a member of the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians and was very active in their programs for elders. Her favorite time of the year was the annual camp meetings. She was very concerned about the young folks as well. Josephine loved gardening, nature walks and picking wildflowers. She was very fluent in the Ojibwa language.
      Josephine is survived by her three daughters, Valerie (Bob) Maidens, Susannah (Winslow) Warrington and Faith Anderson, and two sons, Erick (Lisa) Anderson Jr. and Thomas (Debbie) Anderson; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Smith.
      She was preceded in death by two brothers, Elijah Wanageshik and Francis Wanageshik, and her sister, Susan Merchant.
      Visitation will be held today from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Northport Indian United Methodist Church with a prayer service to be conducted at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Sunday, Aug. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
      There will be visitation one hour prior to the Celebration of Life Service which will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, with the Rev. Tom John and the Rev. Robert Grigereit officiating. Burial will take place in the Leelanau Township Cemetery in Northport.
      Arrangements have been entrusted to the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
     
      ANNIE L. BERGER, 84, of Frederic, formerly of Wixom, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at her home.
      Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel in Grayling.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Frederic.
      Arrangements by Sorenson Funeral Home, McEvers Chapel, Grayling.
     
      THEODORE NOEL "TED" CLINE, M.D., 80, of Traverse City, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at home.
      A complete obituary will appear in Sunday's edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.
      Arrangements are being handled by the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, Traverse City.
     
      GLADYS M. KRUMLAUF, 81, of Kalkaska and formerly of South Boardman, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, LTC.
      Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
      Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, in Lodi Cemetery where burial will take place.
      Arrangements by Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
     
      JAMES LEONARD SIMPKINS, 65, of Traverse City, died Thursday evening, Aug. 8, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      Cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held at this time.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City.

      LENA A. STALKER, 103, of Flint and Torch Lake, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at the Genesis Convalescent Center in Grand Blanc.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the funeral home.
      Arrangements by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
     
      CARL EUGENE WIGGINS, 62, of Beulah, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2002 at his residence.
      Funeral services will be held at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home today (Saturday) at 2 p.m., with Mr. Michael Mead officiating. Burial will be in Champion Hill Cemetery.
     
      EAST JORDAN - Mary Ann Yoak, 75, of East Jordan, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at Grandvue Nursing Home in East Jordan.
      She was born Mary Ann Bailey on April 11, 1927, in Charleston, W.Va., and was the fifth of 12 children.
      Mary Ann spent her working life in Flint, employed for over 30 years by General Motors Fisher Body. Upon her retirement, she moved to her quiet home in East Jordan. She was a devoted mother and wife and will be remembered for her kind words, generous spirit, and the "anything is possible" encouragement that she gave to her family. Though her last years were spent in a battle with Alzheimer's disease, her pleasant and carefree nature stayed with her until the end. Thank you God for letting us share her for all of these years.
      Mary Ann is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Jan Yoak of Newberry and David and Kimberly Yoak of Atlanta, Ga.; her grandchildren, Karyn Sue, Steven, Daniel, Griffin and Kerby; and her five sisters and one brother.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Bob" Yoak in October 2001.
      The family will receive guests from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home, with Pastor Russell Hager officiating. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery.
     
      TRAVERSE CITY - Erika Lindsey Bolton, 22, of Traverse City, died Wednesday in Ann Arbor after a long battle with leukemia.
      Erika was a student at Northwestern Michigan College and looked forward to a career involving work with children. Through her 18-month struggle with cancer, she taught all that knew her the true meaning of courage, love and the human spirit.
      She was a 1999 graduate of Traverse City High School where she was active as a member of the TCHS Varsity Softball Team. Erika loved sports, reading, fishing and all the wonders that living has to offer.
      God blessed the many lives touched by Erika's determination, optimism and her never-ending smile even in the face of terrible adversity. She is dearly missed and will be cherished forever.
      Erika is survived by her parents, Gary and Deb Bolton of Traverse City; her three sisters, Heather Bolton of St. Clair Shores, April Bolton of Ann Arbor, and Michelle Bolton of Traverse City; her grandmothers, Betty Bolton of Dearborn, and Elizabeth Bodo of Dearborn Heights; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, whose lives will never be the same without Erika here.
      She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Lee Bolton and Lewis Bodo.
      Cremation has taken place.
      The family invites all friends and neighbors to a memorial service to honor Erika and celebrate her life at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the Old Town Playhouse in Traverse City.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Children's Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, or to the Old Town Playhouse.
