Obituaries

NOVI - Donald C. Boyce, 67, of Novi, formerly of Lime Lake near Cedar, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 30, at home surrounded by his family.
      He was the beloved husband of Ruth Ann; the loving father of Mary, Andy (Karen), Sarah (Bob) and Peter; and the loving grandfather of Sarah, Paul, Ben, William, Bobby, Shay, Samuel and Aaron
      Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster Road, Traverse City.
      DETROIT - Edward Frohlich, 84, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002.
      Mr. Frohlich was a member of the Detroit Bar Association since 1941, and served as president from 1971-72. He was a trustee for the Interlochen Center for the Arts since 1968. He was also a former director and president of the Grosse Pointe Symphony, former director and trustee for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, a member of Pro Musica and the Bohemians Musicians Club of Detroit, and a strong supporter of the Naples Florida Philharmonic Orchestra.
      In addition, Mr. Frohlich was a member of the Rotary Club of Detroit, the Economic Club of Detroit, the Senior Men's Club of Grosse Pointe, the Bay View Yacht Club and the Pelican Bay Country Club of Naples, Fla.
      He is survived by two sons, John and Robert Frohlich; grandson, John Preston "JP" Frohlich; and step-grandson, Aaron Sherk.
      He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Frohlich.
      Visitation with friends and family will take place, Friday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, located at 20705 Mack at Vernier in Grosse Pointe Woods.
      In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Frohlich Memorial Fund for Interlochen Center for the Arts, P.O. Box 199, Interlochen, MI 49634-0199, or to the Frohlich Memorial Fund for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, 3663 Woodward Ave., Suite 100, Detroit, MI 48201.
      BELLAIRE - Edward D. Tatur, 83, of Bellaire, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at home.
      He was born August 18, 1919, in Sumner Township, Wis., the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Senyk) Tatur.
      He was a graduate of the Stout Institute in Wisconsin an served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
      He was a designer and design director for the L.A. Darling Company of Bronson for 25 years followed by 20 years for the Syndicate Glass Company of Middlebury, Ind., retiring in 1988.
      He moved to Bellaire from Sturgis in 1986 and, following his retirement, he founded the Tatur-Bilt Wooden Toys and Such with his wife Alice.
      On May 15, 1965, in Woodville, Ohio, he married Alice L. Morgan who survives. Also surviving are two daughters; two sisters, Theresa (Daniel) Doughty of Eau Claire, Wis., and Mary Perkovich of Ladysmith, Wis.; he will be sadly missed by his niece Peggy (Thomas) Miller of Lambertville, and their three daughters, Angela, Julie and Christina, who loved their Grandpa Ed dearly.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; a sister, Cecelia Tatur; and three brothers, Leo, Stanley and John.
      To honor his wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned.

      TRAVERSE CITY - Randy Lee Robison, 48, of Empire, formerly of Madison Heights, passed away Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at Munson Medical Center.
      Born Feb. 16, 1954, in Pontiac, he was the son of Charles LeRoy and Annabelle (McMahan) Robison.
      Randy enjoyed computers, music, art and time with friends.
      Survivors include his father, Charles Robison; sisters, Cathy Bliss, Sherrie (Jan Dunn) Robison, Becky (Michael) Marchese, Georgia (David) Rocheleau, Anna (David) Wendels, Laura (Michael) Wendels; 18 nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews.
      Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Annabelle Robison; nephews, Jason Thompson and Christopher Baize; brothers-in-law, James Bliss and Danny Plunkett.
      Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, with the Rev. Larry Ross officiating.
      Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Empire.
      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in care of Anna Wendels, 1032 W. Kasson Center Road, Maple City, MI 49664.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Robert H. Parkinson, 84, of Traverse City, formerly of Lime Lake, died Dec. 1, 2002, at his home.
      Robert was born Oct. 28, 1918 in Capac, Mich., to Richard Thomas and Edna (Hunter) Parkinson. He married Doris M. Konneker on Nov. 16, 1940, in Detroit.
      Robert worked at the Detroit News for 43 years and retired in 1980.
      He was a member of the Empire United Methodist Church where he belonged to the Noon-Tiders men's club.
      Robert was a veteran of World War II, who served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. He was a past commander of the American Legion Post 199, DAV, Empire Masonic Lodge #597, Valley of Grand Rapids and the Valley of Traverse City Scottish Rite, Tall Cedars #102 Royal Arch Masons and the Shrine Club of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
      Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Doris M. Parkinson of Traverse City; two sons, Donald H. (Claire) Parkinson of Clarkston and Douglas (Bonnie) Parkinson of Maple City; two grandchildren; Todd Parkinson and Holly Negrilla and two great-grandchildren, Kyle Parkinson and Robbie Negrilla.
      Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald and Jack Parkinson.
      Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 6, 2002, at the Traverse City Chapel of Covell Funeral Homes.
      A Masonic funeral service will be conducted by the Empire Masonic Lodge #597 along with a Service of Remembrance at 3 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home. The Rev. James W. Boehm will officiate.
      Interment will be at Rose Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Empire United Methodist Church.
      TRAVERSE CITY - Richard F. "Dick" Babel, 85, died Dec. 1, 2002, in Traverse City.
      Born Oct. 9, 1917, in Traverse City, he was the son of Frank and Anna (Nemec) Babel. On Dec. 23, 1949, he married the former Enid Bailey, who preceded him in death.
      Dick graduated from Traverse City Senior High School in 1936. He had been employed with Michigan Bell Telephone Company and retired after 40 years of service. Dick served his country honorably with the United States Army for three and a half years and was stationed in England with the Signal Company attached to the 8th Air Force. He was discharged from the service as a first sergeant.
      Dick enjoyed downhill skiing and was active with the Grand Traverse Ski Club racing program. He was a member of the National Ski Patrol and formed the first ski patrol system in the Traverse City area. Dick also taught with the Traverse City Record-Eagle Ski School for 30 years. He was a mason and a past commander of Traverse City Commandery #41 Knight Templar and a member of the First Congregational Church. He was known as "mister fix-it" and the home he built on Long Lake exemplified his skill and craftsmanship. Dick also enjoyed tennis, duplicate bridge, sailing and spending time with friends at the Grand Traverse Yacht Club.
      Survivors include his three sons, James B. (Leslie) Babel, William R. (Judi) Babel and Thomas M. (Janet) Babel; five grandsons; and one granddaughter.
      In addition to his wife, Enid, Dick was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Beatrice Babel and Helen Potter; and three brothers, Anthony, Lee and Leonard.
      Friends may call at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City this evening, Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 7 to 9 p.m.
      Memorial services will be held at the First Congregational Church at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, with the Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue officiating.
      Memorial contributions may be directed to the Northwestern Michigan College Nursing Program. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home and the church.
      A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home for ESTHER GRAY, who died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and will continue until the time of service.
      ALFRED NICOTRA, 87, of Traverse City, died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, at Birchwood Nursing Center. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      ELMER L. LOWE, 81, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Nov. 28, 2002, at his home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
      MARGIE MAE BLAKE, 89, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2002, at St. Mary's Hospital in Saginaw.
      Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today at Wolfe Funeral Home, Kalkaska.
      Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, at the United Methodist Church in Fife Lake. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery.
