December 7, 2002ObituariesTRAVERSE CITY - Clara A. Kidder, 94, of Traverse City and formerly of Allen Park, died Wednesday at Grand Traverse Pavilions.Born Sept. 20, 1908, in Detroit, she was the daughter of Joseph and Marie Jankowski. Clara was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Melvindale. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and making soup. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Reid of Traverse City; son, Art (Marge) Warner Sr. of Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by her husbands, Zigmund "John" Wasilewski and R.B. "Jack" Kidder; two brothers; four sisters; and her son-in-law, E.W. Mike Reid. No services or visitations are being planned at this time. Burial will be in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens. WILLIAMSBURG - Richard John Keena, 60, of Williamsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 5, at his home in the comfort of his wife's arms. Richard was born July 2, 1942, in Detroit, the son of Lorraine Cecilia (Hojnacki) and John Joseph Keena. On Sept. 14, 1963, in Detroit, Richard married Alberta Ann Akowitz. She preceded him in death in 1981. On March 18, 1989, he married Debra Kay Whaley in Traverse City. Richard moved to the Traverse City area in 1981 following his retirement as a co-partner in a recreational vehicle sales and service business. Richard was a member of the Bates Missionary Church in Williamsburg. He was also a foster parent through Child and Family Services, where he became a foster father to 52 boys over the years. He was an excellent cook who enjoyed cooking with just the right ingredients, no matter what it took to get them. He also enjoyed telling jokes and nothing pleased him more than making others laugh. Richard is survived by his wife, Debra; his children, Daniel John Keena of Traverse City, Scott Richard (Lisa) Olin and Nathan Thomas (Tamera) Olin, all of Elk Rapids, and Daniel Micah (Rachel) Olin of Traverse City; his grandchildren, Justin and Joshua Keena and Keely and Thomas Olin, as well as Alexander Olin, who is expected to arrive in February 2003. Richard is also survived by his brother, Dennis, of Detroit. In addition to his first wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Bates Missionary Church in Williamsburg, with Pastor Joe Purdy officiating. Burial will take place in Circle Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home. MARJORIE DEYARMOND, 75, of Traverse City, died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. Arrangements are pending with the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home in Traverse City. CECELIA M. ERICKSEN, 97, of Frankfort, died Friday morning, Dec. 6, 2002, at Munson Medical Center. The Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes is assisting the family. GARY S. OSTROWSKI, 51, of Crystal Lake, Ill., died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 9, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Penzien Funeral Home, Inc. in Mancelona, where a rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona. Arrangements by Penzien Funeral Home, Inc. in Mancelona. DOROTHY LOUISE SYMONS, 93, of Suttons Bay, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. Visitation will be held Monday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Martinson Funeral Home, Suttons Bay. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay. Interment will be in Lutheran Cemetery. A complete obituary will appear in the Monday edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle. SHIRLEY M. THOMAS, 67, of Traverse City, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002, at her home.
